How many CVs have you broken?

It's been a while since I've updated the totals in the original post and there are so many pages now that it's getting confusing on how many people are up to now. I'm pretty sure a few of you have been out wheeling some trails pretty hard and have new stories to share. I think there are some new rigs to add to the list also. Post up your most current figures and I'll update the original post.

Broken Axel

I broke one at Disney OK during the Big Meats Run trying to bounce up some rocks (not the smartest thing I have done). It was my first and the change went surprisingly fast. It was an Oriley’s axel that I had put in because I thought I had an issue with my OEM. Put the old OEM axel in and keep wheeling.

My Cherry

I popped my first this past Sunday, got the front over a ledge and was working the front left to right trying to find traction. Never found enough as i was sitting on the gas tank and right rear lower link pretty good, passenger front was drooped way out with the ext. travel icons and i heard a distinct but quiet "pop". Less than 24 hours old on a Duralast Gold after i replaced an OEM with a torn boot from last weekend.

I think im at 7 or 8 now. I can recall 7 for sure but i also remember saying my last on was number 8....
I lost track, it happens too often. You can add some for troy too.i know he broke an add stub shaft so that counts as a cv kinda LOL.

I've for sure broken 6, maybe 7..

I've replaced so many on mine and others peoples rigs though I've lost count. Surprisingly I've only ever torn one boot. Knock on wood.....

My most recent one snapped the shaft clean in half. Got to admit, I wish they all broke like that. It's less of a mess!

Bummer dude. It's like an initiation to swap out an axle on the trail ain't it? Welcome to the club :)

Clean Tacoma mid shaft break. I had one break like that too. So neatly broken it looks like it was cut. I agree, way better when there isn't grease splattered all over the place.

It was a very clean break, like some just took a laser and cut it in half. Very smooth across the break. Was crazy! That has to be a manufacture defect or something to do that. Normally the actual shafts don't break. It's the cages that usually bust.

That's the same way my mid axle shaft looked like when I broke it. Same end, same place in the midshaft, aftermarket USA steel axle. I think it's because of the hard corner in the machining. If it had a radius in the corner it would spread the stress. No pics of the broken axle here but you get to hear the music of the break. That would be Sn0wrunner laughing at my broken axle by the way. I tell myself the better the wheeling camaraderie the more chuckles you get.

20 mins. That's pretty danged fast. If you get much faster you won't be allowing enough time for folks to finish their opportunistic pee break. :D

I don't even see how you broke that..

ok ok, 20-30 min in the garage. On the trail it takes a little longer lol.

Dang... that break looks like manufacture defect! Ha, stress yes, but no shock loads?
 
To all you guys breaking and swapping these out frequently, do you still run the metal dust cover thats held in place over the hub area?

Yep. Why are you considering going without it? It's not imperative but it does help keep the dirt and junk out.
 
Wow I can't believe that CV axle broke that easily! Not much of a shock load it was receiving there.
