Excellent, love that place. If you did that, did you'll do lunch/dinner, on the Napa Valley Wine Train cruise? Another excellent choice. I'm a wine-o myself, :lmao:, and my favorite winery is V. Sattui Winery, St. Helena, (Napa Valley).

We did not do the train as we had a rental car which was better because you could then drive off the main road onto some of the smaller ones and discover a few others which was especially true in the Sonoma Russian River Valley and Dry Creek Valley. I've found that the small wineries really do produce some nice wines ie, Duckhorn and others but we had to stop at Robert Mondavi where it all started and Charles Krug. The real lavish ones like Castello di Amorosa (the castle) I found charged the most for their tastings and we thought the wines to all be subpar. We ate at Hurley's in Yountville and that was pretty cool. We drove through the Russian River valley down River road to Jenner and picked up US1 and headed towards Ft Brag. Incredible vistas. It was an amazing week. Only problem we had was driving to SF from Santa Rosa on the morning we left and we almost missed our flight because of the bumper to bumper traffic on 101. oh, I'll have to try that Sattui. We've been drinking a lot of Estancia lately, both Pinot and the Cab which aren't even in Napa but a great bargain and delicious.
actually when the money is free it makes perfect sense to finance a depreciating asset.
option 1.
pay 30k cash, own outright, lose 20% of vehicle value in 1 year, you're 30k is now worth 24.
option 2
pay 30k @ 1.4%, take your 30k cash and invest it at 2.5, your vehicle depreciates at the same rate - yet you've made money on the deal rather than just losing
by october of 2012 you're vehicle is worth 24k, you've paid it down to 23,500
in that interim you've also earned 2.5% on your 30 investment (let's assume you take a 2.5% CD for 5 years just like you'd take a loan for)
The net net of it is if you put that money in a CD you could make 3,990$ vs the 1100$ of interest you'd pay the bank.
Now yes I realize that means you must have the ability to pay the payment as well as afford to put the money in the bank.
If you are a long term financial planner, paying cash for low interest assets really never pans out in your favor unless loan rates are higher than earn rates or if your credit is poor enough that you don't qualify for these sub 1 and sub 2 percent rates.
again don't misunderstand me, being debt free is great if that is something you struggle with, by all means stay debt free - but if you are willing to think long term and are looking to maximize your gain it makes sense to consider financing.
The depreciation happens no matter what, whether it's the banks money or yours.

fftopic: We've taken this thread over. Seems you'll had a lovely time, and that's an understatement. My brother lives in American Canyon, and I get out that way quite often. The road trips you mentioned are all fabulous, rewarding, and just downright wonderful. Yes, for sure, check out Sattui on your next trip, and try the 3 hour dinner cruise on the train. Estancia, what a wonderful wine, in, and of itself, I prefer the Cab, and Merlot, not so much the Pinot, but still, you, and your wife have very good taste. SF can test the nerves while driving, good thing for both my brother, and myself, we are retired, and travel at times when rush-hour is mostly over, which is somewhat an oxymoron, in SF, it seems to never be over.Take care, and apologies to the OP :thumb3:

On topic......I owe about 8-9 grand now as I put half down and financed the rest for 3 years at 1.9% and that was in Nov 09.
Sold both of my paid off prior vehicles,02 M3 and a 06 4Runner, and could have about bought it outright from them. I had to have money left for mods so I could enjoy it for the reason I bought it for in the first place.Offroading and exploring this great country!
It will be paid off next November just in time for the mid Gen refresh and when the special edition white TE with the 4.6L V8 /6sp and full time 4x4 comes out. Optimism at it's finest!

You went through Santa Rosa and didn't stop off at Russian River Brewing to try the finest beer in America? Too bad.:beer: I like Duckhorn too...their chardonnay (which is not the white they're famous for) will make even a red wine drinker happy.
