how much would this cost to fix

1989 toyota 4runner
Say I flew down there, took it to a local shop and had it fixed and drove it back to manhattan kansas. good idea or bad idea

If it's just the sender, the expensive one is 50 bucks at the dealer, the other one is less, and it's a driveway repair. If it's actually the oil pump, I think you'd have to pull the engine to get at it unless the truck has a body lift, and it doesn't look like it does.

if i fly down its not like i can bring my tools and fix it myself, I would have to pay a shop there to do it

Why??? There is usually only one way one discovers that the oil pump/sender system goes.

Wanna guess how? Yea. The engine seizes, or if you are lucky enough to have one with an oil pressure gauge; you happen to catch the PSI dropping before it seizes.

I mean. If you really, really want it.. go for it. But... if that engine seized, you are in for some serious trouble.

I would imagine that you would know pretty instantly and easily if the oil pump is bad. I would imagine there would be all kinds of noise coming from the top end of the motor from a lack of oil way before the motor seizes.

If this guy is an idiot and doesn't know how to do anything, this may be an easy fix for you and you could get a good runner at a good price.

Well, if it were me, I'd call around and find a shop I liked, then I'd have them check it out before I spent all that money on a plane ticket.

I don't like it, not for a fly down, fix it yourself and drive back. That's a crap shoot. Why would he not just drop in a new oil sending unit to check to see if its bad? takes 5 minutes if that. He didn't because he knows the oil pump is bad and wants to give the illusion that it may be the sending unit. If you want it, drive down there with a trailer, give him $500 and fix it at home.

I wish, haven't seen any yet. I need a fuel injected truck so it'd have to be a late 85 or a swap.

This guy isn't answering the phone but I'll let you guys know what he says. I have a trailer and truck I can use to go get it, my dad said hed let me take it. I'll see what history is and try to go get it next weekend maybe. If I can get it cheaply

$100 says its the sending unit or the wire it attaches to. It's pretty hard for that oil pump to stop working, as it's driven by the crankshaft, and its design is pretty impossible to wear out without destroying other things first.

How about a 1986 pick up 22returbo?? 114k miles on it. Some rust. About a hole the size of a softball in the bed

Are you looking to beat the hell out of it? If so, then some body rust is no biggie if the mechanical components are sound.
