So what is the story with the shop?

If I recall correctly, they initially said the repair was under warranty.

Then they said it would cost 3k to fix.

After this ongoing saga, we need to hear the final story.

According to the shop, this incident is completely un-related to the first incident. They said that the engine got really hot and so it warped both heads. (DUH) That's pretty obvious. But they seemed like they did not know what caused it to get so hot.

Before it blew I drove a buddy to get a burger. Stayed speed limit, no shenanigans. Headed back to school for Track practice. Left 30 minutes later and BOOM.

So to me, these guys are idiots. But it's my parents taking the bill so they can do whatever they want.

If this engine goes for another 5-7 years I'll be happy. By then, if I still have it, it will be time for an engine swap or a rebuilt motor.

So whatever, I didn't spend a dime. It's over now, and my truck runs. I'm happy.

Without inspecting the engine parts as it was taken apart, how the various parts were prepared for re-assembly, and finally the techniques and parts used to re-assemble the engine, it's impossible to say whether those guys have a clue or not.

It's a little disconcerting if they truly didn't know or at least care to find out why it failed. Determining why it failed, is the first step in properly fixing it.

Since they apparently have a shop that has remained in business for awhile, I'll guess that they just didn't want to elaborate on the cause of the failure, (which is also disconcerting) but are hopefully at least competent.

So I guess I blow a head gasket every 15,000 miles now.
Once at 150k, once at 164,500, and now at 178k.

Just remember, every 15,000 miles, inspect your brake pads, and replace your head gasket.

Nope, not sure. I'll find out soon enough. But I won't be using this block again. Time for a used engine with 50,000 miles on it that will last 100,000 miles at least, then a V8 swap.
