How the ****###!!$% do I use the factory jack for my 3rd gen?

I was trying to get off the rear wheel the other day to check the axle seal it if was still OK and I had no idea how to use the jack. I couldn't find the location to put it underneath the car.

Any help? the directions were no use.

I have not used my oem jack in at least a year or so, but if I remember correctly, it goes under the axle on the rear and on the front, it mounts somewhat back from the front end. Meaning, not directly under the front diff, but a little behind all that IFS crap.

I know on my '02, there's a piece of plastic near the frame close to the front end that has a mark on it that says: "jack goes here".

I think it's near the front...I'll have to look again. Like I said, I have not used my oem jack in at least a year or more, but I think I remember seeing this. I'll snap a pic w/ my cell later tonight.

Again, I have not used my oem jack in forever, but the last time I used it, this point worked.

jack and stuff are under passenger side rear seat.

now best place to do rear axle seal is to put it under the axle housing. put a plank on it though so it wont slide. both on a plank and a plank between the jack and the housing.

it seems from the instructions for the rear that you jack it up on one of the axle tubes. So you have to balance the little jack on the little round tube. seems kinda shady to me. not to mention it takes for ever to crank it high enough to get the wheel off the ground. I was thinking about seeing if a small hydraulic bottle jack would fit in the location where the facotry one stores under the seat.

thats why you jack it up to height of axle tube before you start working, however

if this guy is doing this at home, id go buy a floor jack, 3 1/2 ton jack, and get some jack stands and then you are good to go.

bottle jack is only for emergencies, not sufficient for work on these vehicles

yeah i tried that , i mean it does work it is just a PITA. And if I am on the side of the road chaning a tire, i want to get out of there ASAP b4 i get ran over by a rubber necker.

yes, you should not do work on your vehicle using ONLY A FLOOR JACK or the bottle jack :awais: :awais: :awais: :awais: :awais:

only use these devices to lift the vehicle up, then put it on jack stands.

the bottle jack can be used to change a tire in an emergency situation, of course. i cant use mine anymore.
