How to adjust parking brake

I've read how to adjust the parking brakes at the rear wheels, but I'd like to know how to adjust it under the center console. My e brake pedal was really soft, and I tightened the adjustment under the console a little. Its a great improvement but I know it could be better. I was afraid to over tighten and have the brakes constantly on. Is there a proper procedure to adjust the brakes under the console? Thanks!

Oh well. I had it all opened up again today to put my CB in and just adjusted it so there was just a slight amount of slack in the brake lines with the pedal released. I can't drag the rear wheels but they still hold tight.

Did you pull apart the center console? I need to do this but have yet to dig into what it takes to remove the center console.

Any advice?

Yes you need to take apart the console. Its a little work but its not hard. This webpage explains it http://www.castulucci.com/projects/carpc/oemnaviaccess/

You remove the 2 bolts in the bottom of the console, then pull up a few snap in pieces, and remove 4 more bolts. Unplug some wires and the whole thing lifts back enough for you to get to the brake.

E-brake adjusters are in the rear brake disk/drums. Local Toyota dealer did mine last week for $28.00. You can do it yourself but have to be carefull not to turn the adjuster the wrong direction. I believe there is a link on this site with instructions.
