One thing I have been thinking about trying is connecting the #10 charge line from the truck to a 12V/120V inverter in the RV and disconnecting it from the trailer 12V wiring. I'd then plug a regular 120V battery charger in to the inverter and connect the 12V output to the RV battery.
The theory is that the inverter/battery charger setup would put a heavier draw on the charging system in the truck - one that the voltage regulator could "see" and adjust accordingly - not unlike the headlights or the rear window defogger. I can even see using the battery charger that already exists in my camping trailer to do the same thing.
I can also see a dozen ways to get it wrong, but I think the idea has merit.
