Hi there, recently i was going through some threads on this forum and on Yotatech and some people were asking how to clean the blower fan to maximize the air flow. Well here it is. I did that cleaning on my 98 SR5 fan last night and took some pictures of it. I couldn't take a lot of them due to my SD Card in the camera was acting up. Anyway, hopefully it will help.
First start with the panel removal. Unscrew the first two screws on the door sill and pull it up to snap it off the clips, (Red Arrows=RA) then snap off the kick panel from its clip shown by (Green Arrow=GR and Blue Arrow=BR) and it will just slide out of there.
Now, you will see the blower fan motor and on the right side is the ABS sensor. You can take it out for more work space like i did. My motor seems hanging, its because it is, I opened it up first and then took the pic. Yours should be straight.
Now to open, you can use any tool you want that can help. I used couple of them, I used a (-) screw driver and a LN key to open the screws, and to open the last one which is hardest one to reach( pointed by green arrow) , i used the wrench with 5/16 socket. You really need flexible arms to do that. I tried to make the shape of the screws
. (Philips or (+) sign screwdrivers will not work)
Once you get all the screws, the fan will just come out and then, you would have to take the clip out very carefully since its very hard to come out.
After the blower fan and motor out, you can take the clip off (in green circle) the fan and take it off to clean. I cleaned mine with the motor on since it was very late at night and i had to work the today. you can use a duster spray to take out the dirt and then warm wash it, or do what i did, i used a Cotton Bud, Tooth pick, and warm water to clean the whole fan. You can see the layer of dust in my BEFORE picture
And after cleaning, replace the clip and reverse the procedure to put together your whole assembly. Then, notice the difference in the blow from your vents. :bigok:
