How to get more power out of a 22RE?

Rebuilt 22RE. wondering options (if any) to bump up the power.
Anyone know of a decent supercharger kit that isn't $2500-$3000?
Or something similar? not really interested in turbo, or swapping engines since it's been rebuilt and is very reliable.

If there's a good thread for this, please show me. Pardon but I'm a newbie!

not a huge priority, just researching now.

We've had this thread several times, but the answer is, there's no good way to get decent power out of the 22RE. You can get a little bit, for what may be cost-effective gains: a fresh motor, kick the timing up a notch, add a decent exhaust header, a hotter cam, a built head and ported throttle body, some intake mods, you might get up to around 140-150hp. Forced induction or stroking will get you another chunk of power, but by the time you get up near 200hp you've spent $5000 or more and ruined all the reliability the 22RE started with, and you still have an inefficient sub-200hp motor.

My recommendation, love the 22RE for what it is and don't sink of ton of money into it. Sub 33" tires and the right gearing make the 22RE a very usable motor. If you want power, start thinking engine swap.

Yea, that's about what I was thinking. And I know that this thread has been had several times, I just don't know where and how to look in the forum. so I appreciate the advice.

I've got a 95, with the 3vze. I desperately looked for some way to increase the power, but honestly 2nd Gens are insanely expensive in that manner. Just work on some other aspects of the vehicle besides the power. If you really want to change it, shove a different engine in it.
 
I rebuilt my motor. Bored out .20 over, performance head crawler cam. It's better but this is not the motor for a "power hungry" driver.
Anyway, I see thousands of folks driving new Powerful big horsepower motors, and everyone drives slow, doesn't go when the light turns green, or slows down for little bumps in the road. "Power" is way over rated. Nobody really "needs" more power, and if you want all of that, buy a new rig with high horsepower.
Or stuff a chevy 350 in there.

A 350? How would you even fit one of those in??
 
You need to re-do the front metal to fit a big radiator, and a lil, elbow grease, but I have a couple of friends who have done the swap........of course you need a beefier rear end to handle the power.
 
I've sunk too much $$ into my 22RE. This was right before I found out about the 3.4L swap and Off Road Solutions came back from the dead.

I mean, for what it is, it gets around pretty well around Missouri and will get up to 80mph fairly well.
However, parts are slowly starting to disappear for the 22RE. So far, they're not too important, have aftermarket replacements, or can just be cleaned to make them work properly.

My old '80 long bed lowrider! Yeah, that was a ton of work, but never finished it. Just needed the rear driveshaft and finish the wiring, but I ran out of money and couldn't afford to keep it.

Chevy 350 and turbo350 trans fits nicely in that truck, only had to cut the firewall to fit the distributor! Don't recall what manifolds I used, but they were stock and hugged the block quite nicely, piping was tight but it all fit!:dancin:

Lol but there is like nothing else left in that thing. Just the engine.
 
Hehehe, its just a trick of the camera, actually! there was still a good amount of room in there for the radiator and everything else it needed to run and drive.

It was an '80 longbed, 2wd truck, and it didn't come with power steering, so it was extremely hard to turn at a stand still, but other than that, it was all there and ready to go! In fact, I believe I had a 3 core radiator that I was going to use, with 2 pusher fans from the front, I just wish I wasn't so damned broke back then! Being a PFC in the Army doesn't allow you much room for stuff like this...:pout:
