Hey guys, I recently had some headaches about installing a remote starter and bit the bullet and installed it successfully today!
I got myself a Crimestopper Rs4-g4 and Xpresskit pkall(NOTE: I DIDN'T NEED THE BYPASS AT ALL, still not exactly sure why, but will explain shortly.)
I went ahead and got some heavy gauge red wire to run from the 12v constant on the fuse box(under the hood) to the necessary plugs needing 12v constant for the remote starter. I went ahead and decided to do butt connections, because some people just wrap wipes, which I don't necessarily agree with. And soldering, can also prove to be dangerous and problematic if you ever want or need to remove it down the road.
Some of the first things you need, depending on what and how you plan your attack are: patience, time, wiring, butt connectors(if you're going that route), wire tools, and some other things I planned to use to make it easier.
I got myself a screw terminal to make hookups for certain things way easier. I stacked the two heavy gauge power wires with ring terminals and screwed them into the terminal. With the opposing end being a ring terminal on the wire coming from 12v constant in the fuse box(under the hood). I decided to use butt connectors just because it was easier. Everybody has their own method, and I'm pretty sure I'll have somebody complaining or something. But again, if you crimp right, then you did it right. I plan to finish up tomorrow by taping up some of the stuff, mounting the remote starter harness, and wire strapping the wires out of the way. I used an existing bolt, not an existing factory ground, that was grounded and tested it with my multimeter. Everything else is wire to wire depending on the car and/or remote starter. A little too tired to go into exact details, but whatever. I totally avoided the instructions in the instruction manual and focused PURELY on the wiring diagram in the manual. The instructions can become very confusing and very fast. I taped the hood pin wire to the heavy gauge wire coming from under the hood, then pulled it through so I could see the hood pin wire and pulled that through. Used an existing hole in front of the drivers side right about in front of the battery. I took some play-doh and let the hood down gently to get the required height. Scraped off the paint and it worked great. Note: at first it wasn't working, but I went back and scraped some more and I think some of the primer was giving me a "lopsy" ground.(Later tried to remote start with the hood open and it didn't work, which is EXACTLY how it should be. This is a safety so someone or maybe kids playing with your keys can turn on the car when you're under the hood.).
The doorlocks were negative polarity so no relays were required at all. There are apparently two wires for the unlock(I believe), but you only should use one. Some of the instructions online say "use both", but if I would've it would've probably shorted out and it would've been a catastrophe. Remember to try every function as you cut and butt-connect(or whatever method you're using) before you move on to the next. Just makes it way easier to focus on one thing and rule it out as done with no issues.
When it came to installing the bypass, I noticed that the color wires they were telling me for like (synchro, CLK, etc) were not the colors they should have been or at all. I did some research and I said oh what the hell, let's just try it without the bypass all together. It remote started perfectly! So even though 3-5 websites told me I needed a bypass, apparently I didn't.. Not sure what this means, or I just got very lucky. Car starts in about 5 seconds of pressing the button, I didn't hookup the tach wire because it would've been EXTREMELY complicated and dangerous. This way worked just fine and the remote starter detects the voltage for the starter.
Now, whenever the hood is open. Nothing starters, and the parking lights flash twice. Perfect! Remote start and enter vehicle and hit brakes? Car shuts off! Perfect! This is an anti-theft feature, so the car will turn off if a thief trys to enter the started car and drive off with it. When you put the key in and turn it to on, and hit the break. It "resets" the remote start and essentially the car is in total control now.
Apologies for this being a rough how to, but this is one of my first threads and I just wanted to help out some people. Some people can be so negative and say "goodluck frying your car", well while that's quite possible; you don't need to be negative and instead just advise the person some important do's and dont's. I'll try and polish this up in the upcoming days, but if anybody's curious on somethings let me know.
