By grounding that pin, it no longer loses the ground when the high beams come on, therefore, keeping the fogs on![]()
jlb said:It has more to do with the fact that many states have provisions in their motor vehicle code that require the fog lights to switch off when the high beams are selected.
In addition if you think about it "fog lights" are supposed to to increase visibility through rain, fog and snow. They do this by producing a short, wide & low beam pattern which reduces light reflected back at the driver. As far as the manufacturer is concerned why would you need this with the high beams?
24runners said:I've always viewed it this way:
FOG lights (for use in fog) should be not be white...they should be amber, wavelength more suitable for fog...and that is when you do NOT want high beams (and sometimes low beams) on at the same time as your fogs.
DRIVING lights are white and are meant to help fill in what the head lights dont light up (close in front of the vehicle and towards the sides of the road)...and with what driving lights do, I dont want them to go off with my high beams...I want the area the driving lights illuminate to STILL be illuminated no matter if my low or high beams are on.

Did this mod today the only difference is that I got power from the parking light so the fog light will only go on with the lights and not all the time all worked great thank youKmvreter said:Then in the engine bay fuse block. Did it slightly different than RXvedub. Removed the front fog relay. Carefully bent pin #2 sideways and connected a wire to it. Reinserted the relay and completed the connection (green wire) to pin #2 for the 115V outlet relay (mine is unused). Now I have fogs whenever I have ignition. I can run them with the DRL's for added visiblity.

I did both mods the hi beam and the jumper and now the fogs stay on with the hi beams and on with just the parking lights and I still can shut them off with the factory switch.spyderdoc said:Thanks for the great research and write up! I printed out your pics and instruction, and went to work....Thanks to your help, the job took a total of about 15 min to do.....
Looks so cool to have the fogs on w/ the high beams. I've been wanting to do this, but was not thrilled about doing the jumper wire bit in the main fuse box, because I want to maintain a functioning switch.....
Thanks again, you rock!
