how to keep the fog lights on with high beams

I did the fog light control at the relay. Thanks. I do find the lights creating much brightness close to the vehicle - this may affect your vision afar if used with high beams.

This reminds me long ago I had a VW Scirocco with 600 watts of Halogen on high beam - This was 4 x 100w H1s plus 100W high beam filaments on the 2 H4s. All of these were relayed right to the alternator output. It was so bright in the near field that your eyes had to adjust and when you came back off high beam, you almost couldn't see.

I'm glad I found this thread, this has been something that has been bothering me since I bought my Runner.

Now I see there are several different types of mods in this thread, and I'm not really sure which one is the one I want.

I would like to be able to turn my fogs on (without) having the headlights on. Plus have them stay on with the high beams. Then also shut off if I turn the ignition off (or shut off with the auto feature doesn't matter which) Just as long as they don't get left on by accident.

Is this possible?

Yes it is possible you need to do 2 mods first the mod at the steering wheel switch then the mod at the relay under the hood but when you do the mod at the relay you should get power from the parking light so the auto off feature still works.

Maybe I'll give this a try today, from what I've been reading it doesn't seem too hard to do.

How long do you think something like this would take?

should take about 1/2 hour the mods I did are on page 3 from Kmvreter like I said the only thing i did was get the power from the parking light the way he did it they will stay on all the time.

Then in the engine bay fuse block. Did it slightly different than RXvedub. Removed the front fog relay. Carefully bent pin #2 sideways and connected a wire to it. Reinserted the relay and completed the connection (green wire) to pin #2 for the 115V outlet relay (mine is unused). Now I have fogs whenever I have ignition. I can run them with the DRL's for added visiblity.

Is this the mod you did, but instead hooked it too the parking lights?

Now what is that black wire I see there for?

So how do you like this mod? I think it would look pretty cool to be able to be able to have just the fogs and the DRL's on.

he must be using the black wire for something else I didnt use the power there because if you do the fog lights will not go off with the auto off they will go off with the acc. I like this mod alot I also did the DRL disable it worked great

Ah OK, I wasn't sure if the black wire was part of this mod or not. He didn't mention it, but it was in the picture

I just went out and opened up the fuse pannel. Do those relays just pop out?

I just don't want to break anything!!!

that relay pulls out with a little force just be careful when you bend the pin do it slow with a pair of pliers

Just want to make sure I tap into the right places.

I dont have a pic of mine but Kmvreter's pic is great on page 3 the pin you need is the top left just like the pic. then take the other side of the wire and attach to the positive on the left front parking light wire.

Ah, I was just gonna ask where you tapped into the parking light. So you ran a wire out of the box, and taped into the parking light wire itself over by the battery.

I was looking in the fuse box for something labled 'parking light' but couldn't find anything.

Yes I ran the wire over to the parking light behind the battery little tight but worked great.

works for me

got the bottom cover on the column off, and looks like all I need to do is basically short pins #2 and #17 together. (just run a jumper across the two.

Right?

hmm, I didn't do something right.

I put a jumper across pin #2 and #17 white/black and the blue wire on the connector

then going by the picture ran a wire from the foglight relay in the fuse box to the + of the parking light.

But for some reason, when I turn the parking lights on, the headlights came on!!! and the parking and foglights didn't come on at all!

so I unhooked it, and everything is back to normal. Going to try it again, and make sure nothing was loose.

any ideas?

OK tried it again, and go the same results.

Here is what I did

put a jumper across these two pins on the connector (#2 and #17)

Then I connected a wire too this pin on the foglight relay.

Then connected the other end of that wire to the green wire on my parking light.

Do you see anything I did wrong?

did you bend the pin out or did you insert the parking + wire in to the relay socket you need to bend the pin out and not use the relay socket.

Ya, I misunderstood what you meant by that. I thought you were bending the pin out to give you more room for the wire or something.

So bend the pin out, so it doesn't make contact with the socket.

Then connect the parking wire to the bent pin.

how much did you have to bend it?

I bent it 90 degrees and put a female connector on it seemed to fit better

That's what I did too, I was a little worried about bending that pin, I kept needing to bend it 'just a little more' and kept thinking to myself, yep it will break I just know it.

but luckily it didn't, got everything hooked up and it all works!
