how to lock center differential and engage 4wd low

I don't have my new 4Runner yet, but was wondering what the procedure is to lock the center differential?
4wheel low my guess would be complete stop, neutral. then engage 4wheel low.
I see some people are locking the center differential from a stop. Wouldn't it be better to to it while coasting foot off the gas then engage it. My thinking is the gears will mesh smoothly without load. This is why I am curious about the procedure.

4lo= stop vehicle, place in Neutral, engage 4lo via selector knob.

Center diff= press Center Diff locking button. May or may not engage while stopped. Can be engaged on the fly.
