HOW TO: Replace Drivers seat bottom Foam- 1 of my favorite mod/fixes so far
Part number- 71511-35110

- This was done on a 2005 4runner SE @ 142k with Manual Non-leather seats and No airbags.
- I've never done this before and taking my time, stopping for food and breaks, it took approx 3 hours
- Required tools- 14mm, package of 11 inch 45+lb zip ties Needle nose pliers, angle cutters, small phillips and flat screw drivers, probably a bandaid since its easy to smash or cut your self during this
* Do you feel like your 4runner seat is becoming uncomfortable or your lower back hurts after long drives?
*Unfortunately All of our 4th gen's are beginning to age and the foam will eventually wear.
*Katzkin and Clazzio are nice but at the end of the day are just seat covers and cost hundreds. That said id still love to get them.
*Perfect time to add seat warmers
Ill try to keep this simple-
1. Remove 4 seat trim pieces covering seat bolts
2. Remove 4 14MM Seat bolts
3. Tilt Seat out drivers door, go in the backseat an reach underneath to disconnect 2 Plugs.
4. Remove seat from vehicle
5. Remove 2 Small phillips screws at back of seat on plastic side trim- 1 each side.
6. Carefully undo plastic trim by unclipping it- Disconnect lumbar control plug
7. Remove nut for Seat Belt clip - 14MM
8. Underneath seat- Under plastic clips holding seat material.
9. Carefully start from the inner corner unclipping seat material from frame,
10. Slide material around and over seat adjustments.
11. Remove thigh support knob by removing metal clip with flat screwdriver
12. once material is unclipped from perimeter, Use Neednose and angle cutters to remove/cut Hog ring clips which are holding middle of seat material to old cushion on small wire like rods through foam. There is about 30? This is time consuming go slow.
13. Once all is removed, vacuum out seat frame and material, and where seat was in vehicle.
14. Take New foam and notice wire/rods in seat. Take between 2 and 3 zip ties per section and evenly spaced slide zip ties through each rod section. You may have to peel tiny bit of foam to make it work. Also time consuming. Go slow.
15. Take Seat Material and Line up Wire/rods on material to wire/rods in cushion. Manipulate the material so you can wrap the zip ties over the material rods replacing the hog ring/clips. Don't tighten yet just snug. Also don't cut Excess zip tie Yet - START WITH MIDDLE OF FOAM. Then go back and forth on outer edge. Again go slow.
16. Once all zip ties are in place and wrapped snug but not tight on wire/rods from foam to material. START WITH THE MIDDLE and pull them tight. Then go around the edge back and forth. As you pull them tight, work Material over foam into seat shape and cut the excess zip tie end.
17. If you need to adjust wire/rods or zipties after tightening to remove wrinkle in material, simply cut zip tie, adjust and replace.
18. Line up seat bottom onto frame and pull back of bottom foam into position. Flip frame over and secure back with plastic clips, more zip ties ect.
19. Once the back is in place and secure, work the perimeter clip back into place carefully. Gently slide side seat material over seat adjustments and make sure all clips are tight.
20. Adjust foam as needed and make sure front of foam is secured to frame.
21. reinstall plastic trim, seatbelt clip nut and lumbar plug. 2x phillips screws at back.
22. bring seat back to vehicle and plug back the 2 plugs you disconnected
23. reinstall 4 bolts holding seat. You may need to readjust seat slider. Watch your fingers. ( I did not do this yet, some people install washers on front bolts to cause a slight tilt in seat for added comfort.) Reinstall seat trim.
24. ENJOY NEW SEAT and a happy back. :clap2:
