How to turn off seatbelt chime

It's bothered me since day one that the seatbelt chime was too aggressive when it turned on. I couldn't find instructions here on this forum, so here is the procedure. If you decide to sell your truck or want to reinstate the chime, just follow the same instructions set below.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Make sure the ODO/TRIP switch displays "ODO"
Turn the ignition switch "Off"
Turn the ignition switch "On"
Press ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds after turning the power switch on) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more
Continue holding the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the seat belt
Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-off" (it will be "b-on")
Press the ODO/TRIP button to change the display to "b-off"
Turn the ignition switch off.

That should do it.

The chime on my 4Runner is off, was that way when I bought it, however my wife's Sienna chimes and it drives me CRAZY. I wonder if this will work on her Sienna.

Does this kill the chime on both seat beats, driver and passenger?

I don't know for sure if it kills both of them, my guess is that it would, i.e. all on or all off. Haven't tried it yet with a passenger. However, if it doesn't you can do the same procedure with the passenger seat.

Don't know about the Sienna, but it might. I got this tip off of the FJ forum and thought it would work on the 4Runner. It did.

I did this on my 4runner and it disables EVERYTHING (seatbelt, door, VSC alarm!). You will still hear the short series of tones as the car starts but after that you better be watching your dash in the event the car tries to notify you of something.

I turned mine back on. Knowing how to do it now I'll just disable it when I need to for off road use.

08 "feature" only. My 07 doesn't have the chime, thank God! I've had them in other cars, and it drives me nuts!

But it would be nice to have it off. I bugs the $hit out of me when I have a bag of groceries on the front seat and the bell chimes.

I don't have a seatbelt chime on my 06 , but if I did ( personal opinion ) it would make me where it.

I have recently made an effort to wear it as to a a year ago I never did. Must be my old age ....lol


The thing I wish didn't happen is having the radio on with the doors open and hear ding , ding constantly ( keys are in and radio on acc ) . Its nice the doors don't lock when the keys are in it.

Can someone confirm if this turns off all warnings? b-on b-off sounds like it is only for belts, but I wouldn't do it if it turns everything off....

I was in an accident last November in a jeep cherokee and I'm thankful I had my seatbelt on. If not, probably wouldn't be writing this right now. Here's a little eye opener for ya.....

BTW, much happier with the T4R....more room, more power, nicer looking interior, nicer vehicle overall....anyhow, i have an 04 and it doesn't have the chime either. I prefer not to have it though....don't need a chime to remind me to wear the belt. I think my above post is enough to remind me.....

omg ty so much for this. i always wear my seatbelt but i put my laptop bag(with a water bottle) in my front passenger seat and that alarm kills me.

i ended up putting my bag in the back but now i can put it back in the front.

where did u find this tip out anyways?

Thanks for the info. It did work and yes I'll still wear my seat belt. Just hate it when driving in the neighborhood with it on and plan on going to the woods. Thanks again.

After buying it I researched how to turn it off too. It's off since, and I like it that way. I wear seatbelt 95% and I don't need an annoying reminder. Or when I'm at a drive thru window, I don't want to listen to it. And for the VSC, when it's on, I feel it, I don't need to hear it too..

Yeah, it's the seatbelt that saves your life, not the annoying dinging sound.
