How TOUGH do you feel while in your runner?

I love how I turned this into a bash on a Mitsu guy. I have been in drag racing for over 10 years. I have friends with 8 and 9 second cars up in this altitude. I never once wanted to bash the guy in his vette or be bashed.

I was huge in the street scene like over 8 years ago from age 16-22. I am now almost 30 and dont do that anymore. You will be surprised how many old guys in the Vipers or Corvettes would give my car props and never dogged it.

Sorry I started a fight with you guys. Also to the guy saying I would need 800whp to beat a GSXR 1000cc in crazy. That would be near 1000hp at the crank to beat a 1000cc bike. Thats just laughable. Here is my buddy taking a 1000cc bike. The other videos are gone since we had to remove them due to my buddys speed shop being investigated for street racing but this one is still here.

Not bashing on a Mitsubuishi at all. I'm just saying what it takes in terms of power, to truly run with a stock literbike. 800+rwhp in a car is needed. Assuming a skilled rider, and non-sketchy conditions of a dark public road at night.

My involvement in Dragracing, is in the NHRA Professional Dragracing arena, with vehicles that aren't even close to street legal. My Landspeed racing involvement has all been at Bonneville. But I have lots of friends that have run at Maxton, the Texas mile, and Loring. I do know what it takes to make a vehicle run. And not just at a Dragstrip.

I have some friends that have made similar street racing videos. But in the end they don't prove anything. We have no way of knowing if an ulterior motive was involved while making them, or the skill level of the participants.

It's the king of logging roads and old country roads!

Had a great time today, putting about 110 miles on the baby around bumble**** nowhere.

Never had to worry about my 11-year-old truck breaking down or not starting again, and it got 22mpg just soaking up those roads doing 55 and purring at 1600rpms.

Plus, with good shocks, it absolutely clings to any bad asphalt, and is a super-safe vehicle heaven-forbid should I get in an accident. The heavy-duty underpinnings means I also don't have to worry about the infinite number of potholes and bumps on the back roads up here.

I am constantly in an IFS vs solid axle battle with my friend's cherokee since they are very similar (close in wheelbase and the 4runner only weighs like 200# more) its always fun when his front diff hangs up on stuff and I just crawl through the same obstacle because of the higher clearance

i would take the articulation and ease of lifting options and traction aids for a SFA truck over IFS any day…but as a daily driver IFS is better.

At my school its yota gang vs jeepsters, they think theyre the sh*t in their cherokees and wranglers their rich daddies bought them but the yota run the place and when they get stuck (often) we're first on the scene to piss them off and pull them out. In the runner I feel like a freakin badass.

cherokees and V8 ZJs can actually be had for alot less than 4runners in most cases point in case one of my buddys picked a MINT cherokee up for around 2500 with around 140k on the clock another guy I know picked up an XJ that had been imported from england for around 5K ... so actually doesnt that make us the rich *********s? considering most 4Runners still fetch around 6K even after they roll 200K

My baby spent 10 years and collected nearly 500 timeslips at the strip,ran consistent low 13s/high 12 up here at 5800ft (12.2 down in Texas and 12.4s in Vegas) and while I miss the thrill of that car I prefer the comfortable and reliable feeling my 4Runner gives me.

I always feel good in my 4Runner and am proud to drive it and don't have any inferior feeling when it comes to taller or more modded trucks and you can tell which guys take them off road vs the ones that are street queens and.

Now I have this to make me feel better when I'm not in my truck and it gets more attention than my friend gets in his Vette.

I still love my 4Runner tho'.

This *is* a hilarious thread. Coming from my last car, which was a little 2000 VW Golf, I would occasionally get that feeling. Then, once we lifted it...I definitely get that feeling. I always look for the color of the springs too! Mine isn't trail loaded, but I kind of like it stealth in the city. I always appreciate sleeper style modded cars where they don't look like much on the outside, but they have killer features where it counts.

Then, when I took trips last year with my rack on I got nods and questions by other t4r owners about the rack and the rig at different gas stations in the high country.

However, for as good as my meager little rig makes me feel, there's always someone out there who's higher than me. Worse yet, I hate when I am on the outside lane of a sloping four lane road. Then I feel normal height again.

Keep in mind, most of this stems from being a 5'4" 27 year old male who's dealt with Napoleon complex his whole life. =p

Like some guys have already stated on here, I'd use capable rather than tough. I've had various cars and trucks in the past, but I prefer my Runner cuz of its all-around performance in any conditions, especially since I got the SS 1.2 A Kit and Dynapro ATs 305/70/16. With my suspension and drivetrain upgrades and all of my mechanical concerns recently addressed, I'm confident I can take my truck anywhere, except for the most hardcore trails, which isn't my scene anyway. My truck is my DD, and I got it to take me to trails that I can actually hike and backpack long term, so I can escape the Mallcrawler scene in SoCal.

I know plenty of guys in SoCal who buy F150s, Silverados, and Rams, then put 6" lifts on them and never take them offroad. I think those are the silly guys who are trying to project a 'tough' image. They strike me as the type who would rather smear mud on their trucks rather than take them offroad. When I see them I just think they're trying to overcompensate for something. I believe that when other outdoor enthusiasts see my truck, they know I have a capable everyday vehicle that isn't overblown.

I am pretty mellow and I am not going to lie, driving past stock tacoma prerunners makes me feel massive and I smile a bit, but other 4runners look menacingly at me! Tough was just the word I used when I was typing the title to this thread. I think most of you know what I meant by saying tough. Sure capable, confident, or many other words may have been a better choice to use, but at the time I posted that, and after having a few brews, tough was what came to mind, and I cant change it now. Thanks for the input though. As far as this part of your comment below, I 100% feel the same way, and here where I live, there are tons of vehicles like this!!

Oh I know jeeps value plummets while the toyota always hold their value but daddy is dropping $30k on a their new "indestructible" wranglers (one kid actually has a black opps wrangler) , in the end they're the ones pissed cause they cant keep up

Hey Strraynge, I wasn't trying to harsh you or anything. Truth is, I know what you mean by tough and I agree that our trucks have balls, especially your's. You have a great rig! I'm ready for my Outdoor Logic bumper!

Every time I pull up beside another street queen in a lifted Dodge/Ford/Chevy that maybe gets dirty when it rains once a month here in SoCal, I have the pleasure of knowing I'm driving up to beautiful mountains with my girlfriend while he's holding his girlfriend's hair while she pukes on his chrome rims after a long night of drinking appletinis.
