HU/steering wheel cntl. install question

If it doesn't light up then you don't have power to it. I've programed enough of these to be able to tell you how to do it without looking at the instructions....

are you using a universal unit or one made for a kenwood, alpine, pioneer, etc...?


If you are using a radio specific then you have to turn the dial on the side to the specified position given in the instructions, along with programming the unit for the version number specified in the instructions. But if it isn't lighting up, the unit isn't getting power.
 
I am using the PS model (Pioneer and Sony), but I know that I didn't switch the number to 8 (the Toyota number) on the unit. Still I would imagine the power light would have come on regardless of the number.

Also, I don't own a multimeter, but I'm going to see if I can borrow someones to test. the main weakness I see in what I did was plug the resistor into the appropriate slots on the plug. Between that and what might be some confusion with the ground, I think there might be two reasons but I don't know.
 
The little dial on the side is NOT what you put change according to the version number. The dial on the side is based on the radio you are using! Look on like page 4-5 in the programming instruction and it'll tell you the number that it should be set to. 8 is the version number you program it to... which is hold in programming button on the side, turn the ignition on, release the programming button, then push and release the program button 8 times....LED will flash 8 times and then you can turn the ignition off.

And the dial on the side of the pioneer/sony unit doesn't even matter i don't think... but again that dial does not determine the version number.

Yeah.. I couldn't remember if it had to do with the radio or the vehicle... anyway. It shouldn't impact whether the power light comes on and that seems to be the initial sign this thing isn't working.
 
I ordered the Scosche NDAB for the two antenna cables... it looks like the right unit... if not it was only $4.99.

Hopefully it is it.
 
you wasted $4.99. That is the same adapter that someone else posted earler. It is a nissan antenna adapter. I don't even know of a connector that works for what you are looking for.
 
actually that picture shows how big the one end is, and clearly waaaay to big for a standard antenna.

Scroll up to where i posted a link and look at that picture. You can see a clip on it that matches up with the factory nissan.
 
Alright so I have an answer for you 3rd gen toyota guys with the dual antenna ends.... it sort of dawned on me today and I did some researching on it and I was right...

3rd gen toyotas have 2 antennas, hence the 2 ends. Their is the powered antenna in the front fender, and the back glass also has an antenna built into it.

Am reception is aftermarket stuff blows, thats just how it is. I know when people complain about it we'll take an additional wire and hook it to to the spot on the back of the radio normally used to lock it in place for a display or backstrap, and extend it to one side of the car and ground it. Believe it or not it sometimes works. You can extend to both sides if you want...that might help too.
