Yeah, well I've wanted a welder since before it was the new cool thing to do... since way, wayyyyyyyyyy before. I look at it as a certifiable "Man Talent".

That Superflow compressor has alot of flaws. Make sure you buy a bag of fuses.

I was looking into the welder. I'm glad you will be the guinea pig...it will be good to get a review as most of the things you'll be doing with it is the same type of stuff I will be.

Nice welder. That's the exact one I have, and I love it. I run flux core wire, and it works great for fabbing bumpers, sliders, etc. Can't wait to see what you build with it!

Judging from the replies that came after you, I'll be just another happy customer. This welder gets nothing but 5 star reviews anywhere you look, I was hard pressed to find anyone who had something negative to say about it.
I'm pretty sure that Blcktpgsr is using this same machine, too, and look what he's done with it.
Nice, Bandit! You've done some amazing work on your rig, and the things you build are always top notch! Knowing that you did it all using this welder, with flux core, no less, inspires a lot of confidence in me. I'll be getting a gas setup right away, so hopefully that will shorten my learning curve. Thanks for the reply.

I've got ideas/plans for everything on this list:

3 <del>Reinforce the rear LCA frame mounts</del>
4 Put some custom tweaks on the ARB
5 Build a bracket for a fuse block in the engine bay
6 <del>Finally install my limit straps</del>
7 <del>Front, Gas Tank & Belly skids</del>
8 Roof Rack (flat, extremely low profile)
9 Compartment under the truck for a spare CV
10 Aux fuel tank in OEM spare location - will retain original tank and set it up w/a second pump in the aux tank to pump fuel into the main tank & refill main tank.
11 An internal structure to mount items close to the roof line inside the cargo area... think fishing rod rack.
12 Extend the tongue on my boat trailer so I can tow it w/the '01 and still be able to open the tire carrier

The only constraint will be time. I may not get to everything on that list, but I'll be doing a lot of it. There's a ton of ideas that I've been dreaming up over the years, so I'll have plenty of projects to keep me busy.

where under the truck would this CV compartment be? sounds unique!
and that is quite an intense list!
btw due to recent events, i may be looking at gears/elocker job in the very near future (ie.. this/next week). so prepare for the views on your thread to go up a lot, all from me. haha :thumb3:

Last Saturday I was able to get the new Boss Audio BASS600 8" powered subwoofer installed.

For $89.99, I figured it was worth a try. The previous owners of my 4Runner had an amp installed under the front driver's seat, and were running a 12" sub in the cargo area. When I bought the 4Runner, they kept the amp and the sub, but left the wiring in place which made for a extremely easy install. The wiring that was there was 8GA, with some decent RCA's and a remote wire. 8GA is exactly what the install instructions called for, so I was good to go.
As long as I've owned this truck, I've wished it had a little more low end sound. I'm not sure if the door speakers are aftermarket (I'll have to look someday), but they put out very little in the way of bass. I wasn't looking to rattle the windows, just to add some extra kick to the music.
First I pulled the front driver's seat and did a test fit of the BOSS sub, to ensure that it would clear the seat and leave ample room for me to re-install my WeatherTech floor liners. It fit perfectly on both counts, so I went ahead and wired it up.
I secured it using the little rubber feet that come w/the sub. I drilled 3 holes in the floor pan and used self tapping metal screws to secure the rubber feet to the floor. I plan to put touch up paint and some silicone sealant on the screw points where they exit the floor pan underneath.
That's really all there is to the install, so I put the seat back in and took a couple pictures of how it fits.
View from the backseat, with WeatherTech liners installed, and front driver's seat moved all the way forward...
And the same shot, with the seat moved back to my regular sitting position.
And looking underneath, with the seat in its normal position...

There is only one point where the clearance gets pretty tight, which is the area @ the upper RH corner of the sub in this pic...
A close up of the area where it's a tight fit... None of the parts in this picture are moving parts, so the clearance is a non issue. IMO, it's a perfect fit for this spot.
Finally, a shot of the adjustment controls.
Overall impressions: Out of the box, the sub definitely needs a little fine tuning. It comes with a Remote Level Control knob, but my deck has a built in control for subwoofer level, so I didn't use the BOSS level controller.
After I got it tuned, I ran it through some tests with some Rock, Reggae, Metal, and Rap.... all different kinds of bass notes. It performed much better than I expected, and being right underneath the seat, the output is really noticeable.
I currently have the gain set @ 30%, subsonic filter @ 50Hz, Bass boost @ about 4dB, low pass filter set @ 150Hz, and the phase shift set to 0 degrees. With the sub level control @ zero on the deck, no boost, no reduction, it has plenty of output.
So far, I'd definitely recommend, but I think some longer term testing is needed before I can say it's a "Must have".

After I installed the sub, I went to work for a graveyard shift... When I got home, my wife was in the early stages of labor. 53 hours later, we got the greatest gift of all, and God blessed us with a beautiful, healthy daughter.

I'll have my hands full for awhile, so the 4Runners will be on the back burner. In fact the welder was delivered over a week ago, but I haven't had a chance to even think of picking it up. My Wife and I have the greatest project of all on our hands now.
