I found "The One", 2001 Sport Ed. TRD SC'd

Love your truck and build. That is exactly what i'm looking for.. Hopefully i'll find it soon!!! Keep up the great work.

THEREALTOR1, ejason,

Thanks for the compliments fellas, and it's good to hear the details are appreciated. I try to include as much info as I can for future members of the forum who are searching for info on these mods.

four flusher,

You are lucky man. I wish I could have Stubbs throw these on... I bet he could knock it out in a 1/2 HOUR.

Brian,

Thanks again man, and thanks for supporting the thread. It's nice to get some feedback from the regulars as well as the new guys.

That's blasphemy... I think it might be one of the better 3rd Gen builds over here, but definitely not one of the best....

GRATUITOUS SELF BUMP ALERT!!!!

But damn, I'm excited.

Check out this pile of parts.... Can't wait to bust out the sawzall and hack some metal, then hang some metal. And if I can't find someone to weld up these sliders and the ARB mounts for a decent price, I'm buying a welder too, ftw!

Just waiting on the XRC8 now......

Just some information, below is a duplicate of a post I made in a thread discussing different options for sliders. I ended up going with the Stubbs Welding HD-SKO's based on:

1. Reputation for strength and quality of the product
2. Reputation for excellent service from Richard Stubbs
3. The kickout design in the rear
4. Materials used in construction/type of tubing
5. Stubbs Sliders come pre-welded (legs/frame scab plates/etc.)
6. Because after I talked to Richard Stubbs I knew that I wanted to do business with him.

Sliders are on the short list of things to get for my 2001 so I've been looking at options too.

I found this thread via the search:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/36748-showoff-your-rock-sliders.html

It has photos of alot of different options.

Edit>>>>

I just did a quick tour of the various websites to survey pricing...

All Pro Offroad - ???? I couldn't locate 3rd gen sliders on their websites, the links seemed to be misdirected.

Shrockworks - $414 for their one and only option. Bolt on, or weld on from what I can tell.

Savage Offroad - $249 (HREW) or $299 (DOM), same cost with or w/o a kickout and comes fully welded, ready to weld onto the vehicle. You can also get a DIY kit similar to the 4XInnovations, etc, where you have to have it all welded together, for $200.

Stubbs Welding - $290 - $625 depending on model... their (apparent) best value is the HD-SKO for $335-$370. I'd have to contact Stubbs to determine if they come completely assembled, or as a legs, sliders, plate kit like the others. There is limited info ont the website.

4XInnovations - $160, with or w/o kickout. Comes unwelded, legs, plates, gussets, sliders must be welded together, then onto the truck.

Trailgear - $135 plus you have to purchase a $19 gusset/plate kit. Comes unwelded as described above.

Addicted Offroad - $135, appear to be clones of the Trailgear item, no gusset kit mentioned. I would also like to know the price/availability on the sliders pictured above from Addicted. Appears to come unwelded as described above.

Rocky Road Outfitters - $309 for Rockrails (just a square tube rail that protects the rocker panel), $409 for Supersliders (conventional sliders). Assembly/Welding required = ????

Slee Offroad - Used to make them, now discontinued.

All the prices above DO NOT include shipping. I'm sure some charge more than others.

Some fj80 rims might end up on top of that pile soon if you don't quit selling every new guy who scopes your thread the 8069's. It was supposed to be you and me, man. The twins. Like full house. Wtf? :moping:

Sorry man. We might be creeping towards Octomom territory. Plus how could we ever be friends once you become one of those plate people? :lmao:

You know I kid. That bumper along with those sliders are going to really look amazing. I've been debating joining you in the S/C realm too...

NO, no no.. Don't get a supercharger. Because soon afterward, half the forum would be supercharged, and I just wouldn't have a reason to feel special anymore. :lmao:

BTW, we're waaaaay past octomom. We're like the Save the Children fund at this point. We just need an old guy with a white beard and a spare 8069... preferably a bent one that's all scratched up. "Imagine how nice it would look if you sent in your 35 cents a day?!?"

Edit....

I did get sucked in by the plate people. They have picnics every sunday. Also, once you become a plate person, you get a special membership card. Not to mention the free jerky when you crush a deer on some backroad! All twins have to find their own identity someday.

Ooo Christmas has come early for sure, nice little pile you're gathering there. Big Fish, Gamviti's site is still up and running? Wasn't sure if those lenses would fit the Taco ARB. But now that I've seen someone take a recent picture of them, I'm gonna order them.

Yessir. They're still open for business, and the lenses do fit the taco ARB... check the pics below, I took 'em just for you.

Making progress...

For the last couple weeks I've been trying to find a welder to do the install on my sliders and perform a frame endcap mod. The first guy I contacted wanted 4 hours @ $85/hr to do both... ummm.... ok. I found another guy who's a retired navy welder to do both for 3.5 hours @ $50/hr.

Finally, I got to thinking about it and I remembered my boss builds and sells these from scratch. (That's a LS6 powered sandrail, full handbuilt tube chassis, 18" of suspension travel, fuel injected, power steering, 5.29 gearing, a $7000 transmission, on and on and on)

So I got my arse in gear and started getting the sliders ready for today. I got them set up on a tarp in the garage and rubbed them down with acetone to remove the penetrating oil that Stubbs covers them with prior to shipping... all pretty and ready for primer.....

The chemicals... Acetone, then primer, then paint, then plasti-dip on the bottom to protect against rock chips....

Masked the feet and primered 'em....

All painted up... I had to leave the plasti-dip on the bottoms until later to allow the paint sufficient drying time...

Got to El Jefe's house and took some measurements... I decided I wanted them mounted as high as possible, so I got to grinding the pinch welds... This allows some extra room for the legs and lets you mount them about 1/2" higher up on the frame (after I ground down the pinch weld I used Toyota touch up paint to paint the bare metal in order to prevent rust)....

The head honcho broke out the 220v Miller mig welder and went to work on the passenger side, then we repeated the whole process for the driver's side... Measure 18 times... weld once. The fitting, marking, measuring, and measuring again took multitudes more time than the actual welding.

Finally... the finished product....

Oh yeah... When we got done, he took my wife and I out for a ride in the sandrail... holy crapbaskets batman!!! 550hp... 2100lbs... major giggle factor. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. Even with 2wd that thing would have embarrased my 4Runner on some of the terrain we covered. Doing nearly 100mph on deep sand up a dry arroyo while the rear end is barely getting traction is simply insane. It went straight up steep sand hills, the supsension absorbed 12" bumps in the road and barely moved you in your seat, it was crazy. I guess that's what you get out of a purpose built toy that costs 5x what my 4runner cost me.

The XRC8 got delivered by the brown truck, so I'm going to clock the winch, put it in on the bumper along with the IPF lights, pre-wire everything and head back over in a couple weeks to do the frame endcap mod and install the ARB/winch/lights all in one fell swoop.
