The 4runner in motion on the road is the best pic. However, with lunch upon us here on the East Coast, the pic of the steaks look good. Too bad my ham sandwich and soggy chips will have to suffice for today.

Those are Bighorn Sheep steaks dude... I ran over there and got one all Bear Grylls style. Not really. That is funny though... I didn't plan it that way.
No kidding, you've been all t-shirts and sunshine. I should note that all the snow I've seen has been in CO... NM is just standard fare. I walked the dogs in a t-shirt today and was actually sweating a little bit.
Sounds like you ride hard, as do I. We should put together a t4r riding weekend. Colorado or NM...Colorado has better snow!!
You got it man. I got a new set of skis/boots this year, so I can go harder than ever before.. I love 'em. That's a good idea. I know Ripcord would probably roll.
I like those motion shots... I first took one of my supra years ago, and I've taken one of every vehicle I've owned since.

I had big plans to get some maintenance done on my '97 this week, but the weather was not cooperating. It's been snowing and cold outside with lows in the teens overnight and highs in the 20's.
It's been so cold that 4Ripcord had to plug his truck in like it was some kind of wussy hybrid to keep it warm at night. I've been driving the '01 while the '97 is down and got a few small things done recently.
First, I downloaded the CamStudio software and got it running on my laptop so I can record the video output on the screen. This lets you see, after the fact, what the wideband, OBD2 interface, and URD box were doing while you do test runs. It allows you to play back the run and tune accordingly so that you can tune while the vehicle is stopped instead of real time during the run. It also helps to better pinpoint what cells on the fuel/timing maps need to be tuned.
Second, the lid on the rear compartment of my damn cargo box keeps falling down and smashing my fingers, so I installed a support.
Last, I finally installed my Mini MagLight. After I built the cargo box and moved the big MagLight to the rear, I had nothing handy in case I wanted to jump out and shine a light on something real quick. It's a pain to have to go back and open the hatch to get the big one, so I put a little one here:
I went with "TRD Red"
nerd on the MagLight color, to accent my interior. I like it.
EDIT: I forgot one more thing. If you have a D-Cell MagLight mounted anywhere in your rig w/the type of clips shown above, the batteries inside will probably rattle like hell inside the flashlight. I had a rattle that took me a few days to track down and I found that it was coming from the big MagLight in the back. So I performed a noise reduction mod on the batteries, as seen in this link:

I just cut some small peices of felt and used electrical tape to secure them around the batteries. Now my big MagLight is nice and quiet.

Hey man had a quick question for you, I know that you swapped your ARB lenses for some clear ones. I recently had to dismantle my bumper and in the process broke one of my amber lenses. Do you still happen to have your old ones? If yes maybe you'd be willing to let me take one off your hands? :hungry: Lemme know. Thanks!

Dude! I had the same rattle on my d-cell maglite haha. I think i just slid piece of card stock on the side of it and it fixed the rattle, it was SO ANNOYING. Glad it was the flashlight and not the mounting set up however.

I'm glad too. It took me awhile to track it down. I attacked the doors on the cargo container first, making them so tight I can barely get the latches off, then moved around all the stuff inside, then checked the mounts... finally realized it was the damn flashlight.

More small stuff...
Up until today I had a simple ISR mod installed and setup like this.... (old picture btw, this was pre 2.2" pulley, guages, etc.)
Today I installed the AIRAID Intake Tube, which cleaned it up a bit....
Side by side, you can see the differences between the two setups. The AIRAID is a bigger tube, with smoother bends, and no accordian sections to interfere with airflow.
The stock intake tube on '01-02 models has a small intake silencer installed between the driver side valve cover and the intake tube. The silencer is connected to the valve cover via a 5/8" insulated hose, and is connected to the intake tube through an approx. 1" opening in the rubber section closest to the TB. The AIRAID on the other hand has a 1/2" barb coming off the intake tube, in the same location where the silencer connects to the stock tube.
I needed a solution that would allow me to eliminate the silencer, and retain the stock plumbing from the valve cover across to the intake tube. The answer was a 5/8" to 1/2" hose coupler/reducer. I picked it up at NAPA for about $5. I plugged the 5/8" side into the tube coming from the valve cover, and the 1/2" side into a 4" section of 1/2" ID heater hose, the other end of which I connected to the barb on the AIRAID tube. Bada bing, nice and clean.

I just added the same intake tube - intake is bit louder now but no complaints. Cleans up the engine bay and hopefully gives me more room for my compressor install.

I had the ISR mod installed before, so any gains from going to the AIRAID would be very minimal... maybe a couple of HP... and with the S/C and all the other goodies, it's hard to notice small gains like that.

Nice. I didn't notice any increase in noise on mine. I did like how it cleaned up the engine bay though. Compressor install huh? Is the Black Beast getting an ARB or two?

My friend's GF picked up a used 4runner on it. I popped the hood and it had the AIRRAID tube in it. I am still trying to barter for it to this day but she is a one tough nut to crack.
I missed out on a TruFlow intake system on Ebay a month ago (I hate that TruFlow is no more) that went for all of $34.
I hope ya got some fishing items for Xmas.

That's a nice system too. I also like the one that ALBPM went with, it's an Injen and it looks pretty clean. I got a couple lures, but we only did small gifts this year.

I got a wild hair today and decided I had to go wheeling somewhere. I'd been wanting to try some snow wheeling with the '01 to see how the Duratracs would do in the white stuff. So, I researched some OHV Recreation areas nearby and found one that was only 25 minutes away. The trail starts at 7,500 feet, so I was pretty sure there would be snow.
I was right... things were looking good at the entrance.
Within the first mile I came up to a rock ledge that was covered in ice. I had the truck in 4wd with the center differential unlocked, and the first attempt resulted in wheel spin and the truck getting stopped. I wanted to see if the VSC/TRAC system would make any noticeable difference, so I backed up, turned the truck off, flipped the Andy Mod switch to enable VSC/TRAC and gave it another go. The truck walked right up the ledge. I looked down at the front driver side while I was going up and I could see the system working by braking the wheel when it started to spin.
When I left the house, I was hoping I might get a chance to use my winch. Soon, I ran into this hill, and I got that chance.
It doesn't look like much, but under that snow was a 1-2" thick layer of solid ice. It was hard to even walk up that hill without slipping and falling on my ass. I gave it a try, but lost momentum about 2/3 of the way up and started spinning tires. As soon as I got on the brakes the truck started sliding downhill on the ice. Unfortunately it didn't follow the tracks down, but went off to the LH side of the track, directly toward a tree.
This picture was taken afterward, but you can see where other people had the same problem and hit the tree. I managed to get the truck stopped about 2 feet shy of hitting the tree, but I was unable to proceed up the hill from a stop, and my only choice was to back up into and over the tree.
So, out came the winch controller. I ran the cable all the way up the hill and hooked up to a D-Ring on a tree strap wrapped around the tall tree at the top of the track in the 2nd picture above. I got back in the truck and let the winch do it's thing. The XRC-8 was slower than I had imagined, but it pulled me right up nice and steady. The Sears Die Hard didn't even flinch and voltage stayed nice and steady for the entire pull.
Once at the top, I continued on until the trail got very tight and icy, resulting in several very close encounters between trees and the body panels on my 4Runner. The sun was going down and I was by myself, so I turned around and went back to the trailhead.
The trail ended up being about 70% snow/ice, and 30% sloppy wet mud with a few deep, long mudholes.
After the first pull, I just wrapped the winch line around the ARB hoops in case I needed it again.
MMMMMMMM.... Snow.

The sliders ended up being very effective at collecting mud, which in turn ended up on my pants when I got into/out of the truck.
I just wanted to see what it would look like if I painted my wheels brown... I think I like black better.
Even the dog got muddy.

On the way out I took a short video just to see my 4Runner in action. I'm always driving, so I've never had a chance to see what it looks like when it's doing it's thing.

The scary part is not knowing where you'll end up as soon as you slide down snow like that. Luckily you halted a few inches from that tree otherwise someone would've had a bad day. lol!
