hit a hole. hole won. water got in the doors. Kept coming.. and coming.. I was freaking out right now. Adrenaline really was pumping out of my body. too bad I couldn't hulk it out of there with my mighty strength!
I got out probably after 4-5 minutes. The horn started going off while I was still stuck so we were working with that too. felt like forever to get out.
truck died by this point. my friend got me out and towed me in the sun. we unhooked the horns because damn.. annoying!
Some rednecks helped me out a bunch showing me what to do.
After it dried for 2 hours we tried jumping it and i'd turn the key and it wouldn't make a sound. got towed out of the sand by sunset by a ford excursion, he had a tough time getting me to hard sand but once I was on the wet sand it was easy. called mom and her fiancé, he come and it started right up. must of needed to dry more...

I think everything is fine right now except one thing. I'm so lucky water didn't get anywhere else.. the alarm computer under my seat is pooped on. My passenger fender was way in the air and deckplate was in so no water went up there. and exhaust was over the water. I'm very lucky..

My alarm though. I've got a few questions. Can I just buy an rs3000 on ebay and swap it and call it good? or will I need to replace that wiring? also do I have to reprogram my keyless entry remote because that will probably take me 2 hours again. the pictures don't look bad but I had water up to my ankles.. and that's scary for me.

Also my moms fiancé said change my front/rear/transfer case fluids? Is this necessary? if it is.. is it hard? I'm a noob but I don't have 300$(Okay I have 300$ but i'm too cheap to fork that out) to cash out on a change so i'd like to do it myself.

damn i just sunk mine too. you got really lucky mine was stuck for a lot longer, but it kept running till the battery dies though.

I can't help you on the alarm but you must change all the fluids. The engine and trans asap. I sunk my `73 Powerwagon and I lost the trans because water got in through the vent

I would certainly check the front diff, rear axle, transmission, and transfer case for signs of water contamination. Park your 4Runner on level ground, then get under it while laying on the ground, and remove the fill plugs for each.

If the gear oil doesn't start to run out when you remove the fill plugs, dip your finger in and see what the gear oil on your finger looks like. If it looks like anything other than clean gear oil, you need to drain and refill.

BTW, I had a '93 SR5 V6 Extra cab, exactly like the one in your pictures. Garnet Pearl color and all. That's one truck I regret selling.

Just check the fluids and if they look like a milkshake change them immediately. If not then their fine. People need to quit scaring noobs with the "oh my god you must chane all the fluids now because you got your tires wet". Just check them youll know if theres water in them. I submerge my runner all the time with no breather mods and have not once had any water get in (yet).

Thanks guys. Everyone says it isn't too hard to DIY. i'm gonna do it with my dad tonight or tomorrow.

Not hard at all, but remember to crack the fill plugs first so that you know they're loose. If you open the drain plug and drain the oil and THEN find out that the fill plug is frozen you will teach yourself new swear words.

At least you didn't pull anything off when you were being pulled out. :P

Oh and I'm gonna bring mine over so you can change the fluids in that too.

Really? Then you must be the luckiest guy on earth. You need to play the lotto.

Changing the engine oil and trans fluid is cheap insurance. The engine/trans are too expensive to replace/repair vs a fluid change. I would look at the others and go from there.

My mechanic buddy is showing me how to do it so once I know how I can hop over to your house! I'm not buying your fluid though! haha

Always have another truck with you when you go out in the woods, thats like the first rule... or atleast have your own recovery methods (electric winch).

Yeah I wouldn't of hit that hole without my buddy being there and without a recovery strap. Atleast my birthday present (strap and D ring) came in handy.

So at least two owners sunk their truck in 1 week ......

:rockthrow:

This... Learned the hard way on an Accord around 1990. I think I finally got the fill plug out with at least 5 feet of cheater bar

Were those rednecks from "Vantucky" ....lol! :cowboy:

Sorry, I had too, good'ol Portland Vancouver burn:lasercannon:

Good time to do the rear diff breather mod!

... Does anyone know how much fluid the rear diff, front diff and transfer case need? ...
Total of 5.4 qts. (1.2 front; 1.3 xfr; 2.9 rear). I used full supertech 75-140 full synth on rear, supertech synth blend 75-90 xfr and front. Luck!

The daughter sounded just like honey boo boo. They were either hicks or white trash(Hope i'm no offending anyone). They were very helpful because I would have no idea what to do after this! hahah.

Again, with the truck parked on level ground, remove the fill plugs and check the condition of the gear oil in the front diff, transmission, transfer case, and rear axle.

If the gear oil in each component is not contaminated, it doesn't need to be changed.

For each component with the truck absolutely level front-to-back and side-to-side, the correct amount of gear oil is pumping it in, until it reaches the level of the fill hole. If it starts to run out of the fill hole, then it's full. DO NOT overtighten the drain or fill plugs. Especially those in the transmission and transfer case, as the housings are aluminum.

The R150F transmission capacity is approx. 2.3 qts

Add all the capacities up, and make sure you have extra so you don't run out before everything is full.

I've found it always takes just a bit more than the stated total capacity.

Just to add, I sunk my truck way higher than that and was stuck in there for a bit. My oil looked fine when checked them. Like stated just check the state of the oil before going and draining it all.
