4runit I have a few questions for you.

Which model amp did you get? You do know that the P1's are 150 RMS so if your giving them 500 RMS each you will kill them, fast. That leads me to believe the amp you have is not 1000 watts RMS.

A custom built box will run $150-$200 at least. Good 1/0 wiring is at least $60. We haven't even gotten into the amp or subs.

well ive been a long time customer so ive got the hook up at a audio shop, and the amp is just some cheap one not name brand. ive had these in for a while and slap them everyday with no problems so what do you mean kill it?

I'm just saying your giving out misleading information. If it is an offbrand amp I can guarantee that you are not getting 1000 watts RMS. I guess it just comes down to personal preference. What is loud to some is not loud to others.

I've got two Kenwood 10 inch subs and a 1000watt Kenwood Amp to power them. A Fierce Audio sealed box.

All for 397.86 at Best Buy in sept. of 08

I'd suggest JL. I recently installed a 12 W7 in a sealed enclosure and it hits hard and it's super clean. You'll need a hefty amp to push a W7 (minimum 500 watts RMS @ 4ohm), but it sounds more like 2 12s. A friend of mine has the same amp as me (MTX Thunder 81000D) and has it hooked up to 2 12" Alpine Type Rs in a sealed box in his Grand Cherokee and my single JL 12W7 sounds way cleaner and hits almost as hard.

I think the JL subs are worth the money. If you can't afford the W7, the W6 and W3 are still great subs.

That's been my experience.

1 or 2 Kicker 12" COMPVR's!!
Im pushing a 500 watt pheniox gold amp to mine, could use a bigger amp with an aftermarket deck. Running 8 guage. Probably spent about $450 in total and it sounds great with the open cabin. Anything will sound good in 4runners. Great slapper vehicles.

Sell my set up to you

I have 2 12" Rockford fosgate p3's rms 500 watts and peak of 1000 watts basically brand new I just upgraded from my old set up. A custom slot porter box made specifically for the subs. I'll give you a kenwood KAC-9103D Amp 500 watt rms 1800 watt max. I'll give you 4 gauge Rockford battery/ ground cables and Rockford RCA cables. I also got other spare audio parts depending what you need and I'll install all this for 1k. Keep in mind I have a white 97' runner. If you wanna get a hold of me in person call (847) 721-4853

JL W7 12 w/a kicker ZX750.1.... Daaaaaaaamn right jl's. By far the cleanest sounding subs on the market. If it's too loud, you're too old.

You should try a company called TREO Engineering. They have a 8" sub that will go into factory location and it sounds great with their MSX amps

I have one 10 jl sub with a ported box, its sometimes to loud, and soon i am trading it in for 2 12 inch kickers, kickers are the way to go if you ask me

Really guys......jl is a decent brand but way over priced, I had 2 12" w3 they lasted bout 2 months then I bought 2 type r 12's and they slam pretty good for the same $250 each and the w3 and type r's are comparably the same, now go buy a Phoenix gold RsdC for about a $100 less and it'll sound even better and hit harder. I had a 12" g5 and Boston makes some pretty good stuff about the same as jl but a better price. The passive raditor that he's talking about "acts" as a port it'll cause a g5 to hit lower freq then if installed in a sealed box. The g5 is for more sq than SPL. Also fyi guys its always better to overpower speaks then to give them exactly what they are rated for. Power isn't what kills them its the distortion that kills it. An amplifier only amplifies the signal that it receives. So if you a .5 volt signal w ur RCA's ran next to ur power wire even an audison lrx, Phoenix gold mps, which are top of the line amps, even a jl will sound like straight ****. Now have hu that has a 4v+ signal ran on the opposite side of the car instead then the power wire and match the gain on the amp to the 4v and let's say its a fosgate, kicker, or even a Sony xplode amp and it'll sound cleaner then even the other amps I listed.

I hope this may help some of you. also brands are like peoples opinion and their ears......also like an ******* everyone has one..........no pun intended to anyone on hear jus some food for thought.

I know this is going to sound crazy but check out Clarion. They aren't exactly known for their subs but after hearing one of these 10's (Clarion WQ2510D) I was sold.

Clarion U.S.A. | WQ2510D

I recently picked one up for $80 shipped!!! Buddy had just one of those with an Alpine MRP-M500 pushing it. If you check out some reviews, there are not many, and everybody has been really happy with them. Most wish they have picked on of those up over their JL subs. They need hardly any space to run them, great power rating, good design and cheap. Just some food for thought, you could run two of those and still have a lot of money left for other audio pieces.

My 1 10w7 beats harder than my buddies 3 10w3v2's. Its more than enough power. I bought mine in the JL prowedge box w/sub for I think $500 shipped. Also got a 500/1 JL amp for like $375.
