Back at work

Well, The weather's finally improved enough for me to start multiple projects. Beside the much anticipated Supercharger addition and the timing belt, etc, replacement, after a couple wheeling trips, I decided that I needed a winch. Since I'm planning on working only a few hours a day, it may take me a while. As a matter of fact the Timing belt, etc job was a ..... PAIN, took about 10 hours, a lot of which was trying to get the crankshaft pulley off!!!

This is why it's a good idea to have the first timing belt change done by the dealer/mechanic. That way they can break the factory torque loose. Then the owner does it the next time around.

BTO, wish I knew that before starting the project, ended up taking the radiator out in order to use air tools, no go, finally got the bolt off with a 4' pipe on the socket, then the pulley wouldn't come off, needed a steering wheel puller

A couple of weeks ago we started installing the SC and it was going smoothly until stupidly we tried to force the main tensioner bolt without chasing the treads in the block, bad idea, the hole in the motor cracked and it was over for the SC install, after days of being bummed we finished the timing belt, so I'm happy my ride's back in action, we got the winch mostly installed today, oh well!

Nevada's a "hands free" state on October 1, so I purchased a Garmen-Nuvi1490 (from their factory store for $189 shipped) a very sweet unit, but I hate the hanging wires, anyone done an install that looks good? I'm thinking about mounting it above the left vent by the clock and running the wires behind the radio and the plugging it into the cig plug, ideas?

Nice price on the unit.

And I do have a solution to the wire problem. it was the same thing about my radar detector that caused me to do this mod. I added an extra power socket under the drivers kick panel. Then ran the cord down the door jamb and under the dash.

as for the crank pulley.. Im sure anyone who has done their own timing belt for the first time can relate to that... i Had to do it twice. Once on my tacoma, and my 4runner

i put my gps on the left lower corner of the windshield and there are areas you can hide the wire all the way to the outlet. everything is looking good man!

I have a Garmin Nuvi 500, and I hate having the cord hang down in front of the stereo too. I just ordered a Garmin Nuvi Hardwire Kit off Amazon for like $12. I plan to run the wires behind the dash and connect to the cigerette lighter wires.

I drove up to Susanville this morning and had Richard Stubb's weld on my slidders, great guy, promised that he'd have them painted and ready to install when I got there, two hours later I'm rolling down the highway with a smile on my face, plus added bonus, I got two hours of local 4x4 info, I can't wait for summer....Rubicon trail anyone?...Richard said my rig would make it no problem, as long as it's late in the season and the trail's been "stacked" learned something new today...unfortunately he started talking about "lockers", the mod list just got a little longer

Gotta say this is a clean looking Runner. I love the bumper and the overall look of your rig. Good to see another Nevada guy on the forum! Can't wait to get back to the States and do my build! Keep up the good work on the Runner.
