I-POD question

So i want to get an I-pod. How do you guys hook these to the stock head units. I run a stock head unit, 2 amps and subs, so I am very concerned about sound quality. I was looking at that monster fm transmitter cable, but not sure how the sound quality will be. What are you guys useing?

FM transmitters suck compared to a hard wired solution, simple fact. I use a PIE adapter that gives me a headphone jack for audio input. It works well with my IPOD, GPS and portable DVD player...

I agree, I have a RoadTrip FM transmiiter and it sucks for sound quaility. How does the PIE adapter work? Cost?

Without spending too much, I go with a casette adapter if you have a tape deck. I've used FM transmitter the sound quality is ok, at best. The '06 models have an auxilary input jack though.

I agree, I would use an old school tape player attachment. I use that for xm and it works pretty good. Are you really running two amps and some subs with the stock HU? Why not get a new one? Just wondering...haven't heard of many people doing that.

PIE Adapter was about $70. It installs on the back of the headunit and it is a plug and play installation back there. The output is two RCA (Left and Right) and then I bought an adapter than changes RCAs to a headphone jack. The PIE unit fools your radio into thinking that there is an externally connected CD Changer. When you hit CD, you get another screen for the PIE unit that looks like it is for a CD Changer. I have the 6 Disc JBL and the internal CD Changer still functions. I had a single Disc JBL that worked fine with it too.

Yep. You would be amazed at what high quality amps will do. I'm running an MTX 4320 in 2 ohm, running all the stock interior speakers. Everybody who hears it swears i swapped them out. Each speaker is seeing about 85-90 clean watts RMS, not peak. They are crossed over through the amp.

For bass I am running 2 cadence solo bass 2's. I run a cadence A-7 class D bass amp. In 2 ohm the subs are seeing about an honest 800 watts RMS.

I spent ALOT of time with the crossovers making this thing sound right, but you would be amazed how it came out.

I run the stock head unit for a few reasons. I didnt want it to be obvious i had stero stuff in it. Its also a lease, but being i have so much stuff to take out anyway, i guess i cant stand by that reason. lastly and the largest reason, My last truck had multiple crossovers, equalizers, radio adjustments, I just wanted something simple. I did think about it at first, but after i got everything set up right in here, these was just no need for what i was looking for.

the digital monster cable plug workd extremely well on my wife's honda and also in my 4runner. it costs about $70 and you can get it at Circuit City, but make sure you get the digital one check it out

So, i was able to try my friends set up in my truck today which is the same as above.....

We compaired the same song on the same cd (the new korn cd), i have to say, the sound quality was no where near the same as a cd. I have to say, I might just hold off for now. I want to try the monster version, though, mabie it will be better

What you need: Peripheral iPod adapter

I just installed a Peripheral iPod adapter that I bought from Crutchfield. Easy to install, sound quality is perfect.

I've got the factory (non JBL) head unit, and this thing tricks the HU into thinking it has a CD changer installed. It charges the iPod and the steering wheel controls work on/with the iPod.

Works great.
