Sorry, dudes. I just left the 5th Gen club. :cry2:

I got the car 3 days ago with 8 miles on it, so you can see I do quite a bit of driving now that it has more than 300 miles on it. Fuel bills last month totaled more than $700. This car has an 11.9 gallon tank. It was between this and the IS250/350. I got the hatchback for utility since I now have three dogs:

Meet Ashley: the puppy who loves to do nothing but sleep. She's a Dutch Shepherd that I rescued a couple of weeks ago. Awesome dog.

But, don't fear friends. I have replaced the 4Runner with another 4Runner. An '84 with ~182k on her, and just passed emissions with flying colors.

I need to pull my trailer with this new machine. However, it doesn't currently have a hitch. Also, I have an articulating hitch that is a male/female attachment rather than a ball attachment (so, it goes directly into the receiver rather than on a 2.5" ball or the like). Anyone have any ideas how I can pull my trailer with it without losing too much rear-end clearance/departure? The trailer sits a bit lower than where a hitch would be mounted (thought I'm not exactly how much lower because I haven't measured yet).

Other than you and your girl, I'm the next person in line to miss the ol' 4Runner. I have some fond memories of working on her for you. I hope she goes to a good home and finds her way back to these forums.

I'm glad you kept the trailer. I was really worried as I started to read your post. You started with a commuter car pic and then I was completely relieved when I saw the 1st gen.

Hey,
Any competent welding and metal fab shop will be able to give you something to your specs that would work nicely. Just go there with your new 4Runner and show them pics of the trailer connection and they should be able to tell you what you need to buy and they can custom fab the rest. Glad you are doing well!
 
Waiiiiiit! When you texted the pics this weekend of the new 4Runner I did NOT know it was a replacement!

Sad.

I'll be getting a commuter this spring. The 4Runner stays though!

Sad to see your old 4Runner go, because it was one of the nicest rig/trailer combos out here. I do like the convertible 4Runners. Looking forward to seeing you transform this one. soooo do we need to start looking for you on the Gen 1 forum now?

You do realize that you're going to have to trade again in 12 months to maintain true Brock form......to something equally cool, of course.

Anyway, nice combo.
 
I considered doing the same thing. I got my 4runner because of my dogs but in my opinion it's too big and wide (and nice) to wheel as hard as my friends do with their trail rigs. I was going to sell the 4runer and get an IS350 and build a 3rd gen 4runner or mid travel Tacoma. Luckily (I think) I bought an older Acura RSX as my daily (70 mile daily round trip for work) and I will keep building my 5th gen. It was a very tempting change though...
 
I was super scared when I saw this post (a little late)! Although I can't lie I am considering converting to a Tundra (true Brock style) but just picked up a TJM rooftop tent so still going with the trailer.

lol I did the same thing in 2007, went from a 2004 v8 sport to a sonata on the same issue, mpg. back then it was $4.50 a gal, but I was never happy until i realized I got back into a 4runner.

I looked very hard into a GS350 awd and almost bought a 2013 nautical blue back in September of 2013. things / $$$ and trade in worked against me, so I fell back to a 4runner.

ultimately you have an older gen to fall back on, but I don't have that luxury with 4 car payments (2 kids and now a college bound) so I went with something cheaper overall long term (new 4runner vs used GS350 awd).

I have found that having the 4runner may cost more in gas, but I make up for it with better winter fording (snow depth) and places I can get to go fishing off the beaten path that I couldn't do with the sedan.

I am surprised you didn't wait for the new NX to come out, but its all good even with the ct200h.
 
Gees $700 a month dings the wallet for sure, that definitely pays for a new ride, gas, insurance, and you still save money!

Looking forward to seeing what you do with that 1st gen, your 5th was pretty damn sweet :)
