i searched but cound not find an answer on Entune text issue

If you want to be really slick, if you have an iPhone 6s, 7, 6s plus or 7 plus, you can enable Siri's "Hey Siri" function which allows you to say "Hey Siri" no matter where the phone is or what its hooked up to and begin the dictation that way. This goes around the issue of certain steering wheel buttons not activating Siri or the Entune system.

So i just tried doing it again but I have to hit Siri on my phone (which is no big deal) instead of the command button on the steering wheel.
At least I know it works a different way.

Maybe you aren't pressing the right button. There's a "press to talk" button that looks like a mouth with sound waves coming out of it. That's not the right button to activate Siri Eyes Free. That's the button to activate the Entune Lady, whom I call "Marge".

There's a button that looks like a telephone with the handset lifted up. This the "off hook" button and this is the one you press and hold for a couple of seconds to activate Siri Eyes Free.

Maybe there's some setting in the iphone that allows Siri to work when your phone is locked. I didn't have to tweak any settings like this and I never looked for a setting like this, but maybe my settings were correct by default.

As far as holding the "off-hook" button on the steering wheel, the display has specifically given me a message that the voice command directly to the phone feature is not supported by the device. (6s Plus)

If you hold down the home button on the phone itself, Siri will activate and operate as expected (dictate texts, etc.) while utilizing the vehicle's Bluetooth for audio i/o.

Sounds like both of you guys either have a problem with Siri being enabled from the lock screen (it's a setting in the iPhone itself) or maybe it's a problem with your specific phone (and I don't mean your phone model because every other iPhone user, myself included, can do it without a problem).

Check your settings in the phone to make sure that Siri can be enabled from the lock screen and if that doesn't work, try uninstalling entune, unpairing the phone, and then reinstalling and repairing.

I've got everything enabled for Siri and even tried the CarPlay setup but it never finds my 4Runner. I'll give the ol' uninstall-reinstall a shot and see what what happens. Thanks for the input.

I had issues with the bluetooth messaging on my 16 LE at first. I eventually had the truck "forget" my iphone and my iphone "forget" the truck. I then restablished a new bluetooth connection and have had zero problems with Siri Hands Free or Entune Messages.

1. Go into bluetooth settings in Entune, and delete your phone
2. Go into bluetooth settings in iPhone, and click on the 4Runner, then select "forget this device"
3. Wait a minute
4. Go back into bluetooth settings in Entune, add a new device
5. Go back into bluetooth settings in iPhone, connect to 4Runner

You should be all set from there. It is also helpful to sometimes have your phone unlocked when you first turn your truck on. Your phone can lock after the truck is turned on (doesn't have to stay unlocked the whole time), but I do that every time and have never had issues.

As discussed previously, to text via Siri in your truck, make sure Siri is enabled. In the iPhone settings, go to Siri, select Siri at top, then select "Access on Lock Screen". Then hold down the "Answer Phone" button on the steering wheel. After 2-3 seconds, the Entune display will show a microphone and you'll hear the Siri "ding ding" sound. Tell her what you'd like her to do ("Siri, text my mom that I love her" or "Siri, play my Celine Dion Greatest Hits Album"). Siri will respond and do exactly what you ask for, assuming she/he is capable.

I have had zero issues with Entune message receiving (Entune reading texts for me) or texting via Siri in my 16 LE since I followed the above steps. Hope it works for you.
