I also got a 2000 cruiser 3 months ago. Register at forum.ih8mud.com to get great information about cruisers.
These 100 series cruisers have loose front-end drive train. Currently, I have lowered the diff and found nothing wrong. It is the old CV's and flange at the wheels (no 36 mm nut at the end of the CV so it is moving and wearing out the flange) that seems to be the issue.
Also get two new T-fittings on the heater coolant lines (located by the firewall)
You have VVTi engine so getting the cam oil seals is not fun. The motor is interference so get the timing belt done if not done in last 100 K miles. I went with AISIN kit that has Mitsuboshi timing belt, AISIN water pump and Koyo bearings.
Other than that this thing is a beast! Lots of power!! Enjoy!!!

Are you planning to get diff locks? the 100 series made in 98 and 99 got diff lock as an option. I think all 80 series had the option to get diff locks.

I'm located in Louisiana. Wife is getting it detailed today. Wanted to get that done before photos and posting.
Solid upgrade. The 100 Cruiser/LX470 is such an underrated vehicle. Around here at least, everyone builds up the underpowered and dated 80 series, thinking they need the solid front axle while you rarely to never see built up 100's. The LX470's also havent held their value like the other toyota trucks and you can find them for well under 20k now. My dream build would be a dual locked and armored LX470 that looks mostly stock. Showing up to the trail in a $100,000 lexus soccer mom suv and outdriving all the beat jeeps and pickups sounds like a fun time to me

Just started lurking and bookmarking there.
There may be an issue with the driver side CV the dealership said. I haven't noticed it, but I'm brand new to the platform. I think I want to tackle the fluids first.

Unless you don't mind MASSIVE body damage, that wouldn't happen. More likely, lots of broken parts if you tried.
