Here's my situation:
I bought my 4th gen back in late June. Been loving it so far. This is, by far, the nicest vehicle I've ever owned!
But it's used, and it has 95k miles on it. No big deal, except for some minor annoyances like no owner's manual, missing the center console drink holder thingy, only one remote, etc.
But, it's also got...something...installed. To the left of the steering wheel, low on the dashboard (near the hood release) is a bright BLUE light. It stays lit up pretty much all the time. Given that it's blue and all the other dash lights are amber, and given that I drove a number of 4th gen 4runners and never saw this, I assume that whatever it is, it's an aftermarket accessory.
I've never had a car alarm or immobilizer installed, so I don't know what to look for. I don't know what kind it is, how to activate it/deactivate it, etc.
Honestly, my first inclination is to remove it. I don't need or want some extraneous electronic device that I didn't have installed myself, because (a) I don't know what it does or how to work it, (b) I don't have an owner's manual to know how to use it and/or troubleshoot it, and (c) I don't know if it was installed by a professional or by Joe S**t the Ragman in his backyard.
So where should I look and what should I look for? Is there some kind of "black box" that would be attached to the ignition or the fuse bloc or something?
I don't have the 4runner with me at work today, so I can't take a picture of the light, and I haven't had time (yet) to trace the light to see where the power comes from. But I can do that and post up whatever pics I can get tonight.
