I kinda like that matte OD ammo can green.. but id probably destroy it when driving though brush and branches which is why I never did it.

Ya, I would considering parting it out.

What I need to do is inventory everything I want to part out and figure out pricing. Ill eventually get this posted in the for sale section and update this thread with a link.

I don't know why you just don't keep the truck and make it more luxury on the inside with a new stereo and adding Katzkins with seat heaters and air fans. GX is the same truck underneath, but god are they ugly as sin. They look like giant bubble mom-mobiles rolling down the road. The rear is hideous as are those front headlights. But I guess that's my take so if you like it then that's all that matters. But good luck finding a good one now as they are the "new hot" Overlanding vehicle on IG. Especially the 470 with the V8. Everyone is buying them up. I would stick with your truck and just do some upgrades instead of buying a GX and putting more money into it for it to just sit.

I own an 07 by art and an 05 TX. Everything ports over 3xc3pt the brakes. Wheels. Tires. Lift. You name it. Not sure about the roof rack but you Mike be able to modify it. The slider might even port over. If I were in your shoes. I would find a stock GX470 and start swapping. And then sell the gold one

It's a struggle... picking between the GX470 and GX460.

470 was my original pick, but I started leaning towards the GX460 to have an even nicer interior and a newer truck. Probably be on city / road trip duty until it gets a bit older. Off-road aftermarket isn’t as great for the 460, but looks like it’s developing slowly. Might be better for my time frame and needs.

If I go with a 470, I already have one lined up though a friend. It's not a done deal, but it’s mine if I want it.

I don’t have IG, Facebook, or any of that stuff.. I just do me… What you are saying is perfectly valid, and it’s not like I haven’t considered it already.

It’s the little things… auto window down on all, power and memory seats, leather, telescoping steering column which makes ingress/egress a lot more comfortable. My 4Runner is a V6, would like the upgrade to a V8. I’ve spent a good amount of time with that white 470, it’s a pretty nice upgrade for me.

If I continued to spend money on mods and upgrades… TC long travel, king shocks with bypass, bumper, I rather do it on a rig like the GX 470. I very much like how a built up GX turns out. But as I mentioned above, the 460 actually makes more sense with life stuff. Mostly road with the option to go off-road.

End of the day, the 460 is me trying to hold onto some of my off-road roots… if I dump off-road all together, I wouldn’t even consider a GX, 4Runner, or other 4x4 trucks. My top pick after that is a Porsche Macan but I really don’t feel like spending that type of coin right now. Not much else I really like…

Carmax is a terrible place to buy a vehicle, but a great place to sell one or at least get a baseline offer and see what it’s worth to a dealer. You should be able to get $2-3K more private party, with patience. Being in a position to wait is optimal and you’ll most likely gross more if you sell some of the more expensive and “extra” pieces over time, then sell the vehicle as a whole once the initial buy up of parts slows.

I guess in the end it depends on how much you value your time. It’s going to take a heck of a lot of work to piece things out, get the stock parts back on, post parts on CL or here, get back to people, etc. ugh, I’m getting tired just thinking about that, lol. If you get paid $50/hr. working your normal gig, you have to account for that when estimating the time you’ll be spending managing online ads and when removing, selling, and replacing parts. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it just doesn’t make financial sense. Unless you just find enjoyment in the process, then it’s a hobby!

I literally just moved from San Diego couple months ago... the reason for all the life changes. I’m really going to miss my day trip desert spots like Anza Borrego.

I still have all my stock roof rack rails and hardware so I would not be looking for trade, but I am open to sell.

I hear you on the gx460. I like the fact that it has a timing chain. And they do have more modern features. If this is an offroader, then go with 470. Street queen with some aftermarket prettiness, then go with the 460

people mentioning bad looks and design of the lexus - i think they look pretty sweet when modded a little bit. if theyre stock they have the same surface area body or weight (looks wise) of those early mercedes SUVs (not g's). i think without runners, w sliders, lift and wheels they look pretty badasz to be honest.

Instead of making a new thread, I figure I update this one… the time has come, and I am going to part out the truck. Getting to this stage was like pulling teeth, but after my last trip over Thanksgiving, I decided it’s time.
