I wouldn't say the springs are rare as they are just maybe half and half and alot of owners upgrade to the '99 coils.

Plus it adds fun to the argument of which gen off roads better than stock as the '99s with the taller coils throw a twist into that argument since it still is stock.

I'll post up pics of my '99 vs a true stock '03-'04 nose to nose when I find one at the mall and 4th gens are everywhere here.

Still, I wonder how many 3rd gens are out there with the "taller" springs. So you're saying that the taller springs might or might not be on the 99 models, but are definitely not on the pre-'99 or post '00 models?

I guess it really doesn't matter, because I've noticed that even 4th gens seem to have slight differences in the height of their front ends. I've noticed that some 4th gens seem to be really squashed down in the front, more so than others. I'm sure the springs are the same, so I'm not really sure what causes that....maybe it's just due to slight differences in the slope of the ground or the way it is parked.

Look at how low my front end looked before I installed the 1" leveling lift. It amazes me that only 1" of lift makes such a big difference in the look of my 4Runner.

Now here it is with the 1" leveling lift installed. I also changed tires between the first and second pictures (same size though...) and now I have FJ wheels with the same Discoverer ATR tires.

I can barely remember the question, but I do know one thing: I've been pulled out (hard) by the front hoops and they are still fine.

It took 2 jeeps in line to bust me out...I don't think I ever put more stress on those hoops than that day.

That's good to know. I guess the loops are pretty damn strong. I always thought they looked pretty strong.

I laughed after I posted it but it wasn't intentional but the mall is the best place to look for any SUV make especially here in Colorado which we have one of the highest SUV per capita rate in the US and we rule with Subis too.
