ICON Stage One lift installed on 2015 TE

ICON Stage One lift making contact w/ trac bar. 2015 TE.

As the title says, just had my kit installed on the runner today. Unfortunately, bought the kit through a GB few months back, prior to ICON stating that a trac bar IS indeed required for install with KDSS equipped runners.

I did however install it without the trac bar (#54200) and as I nearly arrive home, I hit a pot hole where there is construction going in and hear a nasty clunk. I was hoping it wouldn't be a problem!! :(

Luckily, Total Automotive is willing to give me a decent price on the part. I was wondering if anyone else had this issue? I know several members have the kit installed with no bar and no issues. Also, any other alternatives to the ICON trac bar that may also fix this issue or am I required to purchase ICONs to completely fix it?

Any feed back would be amazinggggg.

I know Sonoran Steel also sells a rear panhard/track bar for our 5th gens. I believe it's also less expensive than the icon one. It came with my Sonoran Steel lift and I installed it last weekend. I do not however have KDSS

Thanks for that. I did look into their trac bar but wasn't clear to me wether it would fix the point of contact, or just allow proper articulation.

The title of your post is not specific enough to get you much traffic here.

I don't understand why you would need an aftermarket track-bar with a regular lift and KDSS. I remember hearing there can be contact at full extension, but I doubt that is what you heard. I know there is problems with it trying to run LT, but just a typical lift should not cause any issues on the road.

I'm not that familiar with running KDSS, but I'm sure Jeremy556could answer your question. I know he is very familiar with it.

I'm most certain i did hear a clank of some sort. I even checked the bar once i arrived home and inspected bars. There was marks on the bar that implied contact.
I really hope you are right wfo9 lol. That would make my life easier, esp with the boss aka wife. Since I barely got her to sign off on the kit, no need for an added expense lol. Also unsure on how to edit title :(
Jeremy566 if you would be able to shed light on my dilemma, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ha, I never would have clicked on this thread without the mention, or words like trackbar or panhard bar in the title.

The stock trackbar will impact the KDSS swaybar at full droop with the standard travel Icon rear shocks, but it isn't something you will be able to hear over the suspension topping out or cause any problems. I assume their new curved trackbar avoids the slight contact with regular travel shocks, but it can't possibly provide enough clearance for long travel, so it doesn't seem very useful to me.

Jeremy566 So i'm mistaken in saying the clank I heard was from the track bar making contact with the KDSS sway bar? That or, when I drove over those pot holes, my suspension was at full droop and then made contact?

You'll get marks between the track bar and sway bar just during installation. I highly doubt any clank noise over a pot hole was caused by it. Welcome to the world of aftermarket suspension. You must learn to embrace clanks, clunks, squeaks, creaks, pops, and frequent maintenance.

That would be one hell of a pot hole to get the suspension to make full droop. In fact, I think you can only get near the contact point with articulated travel. vertical travel would most likely not be enough...

Many of the aftermarket suspension make a bit more noise (upfront mainly). The ICON coil overs don't use rubber bushings (they use spherical bearings....)and you hear a few things from time to time....

wfo9 Jeremy566 waited til the wife n kids were asleep and I just drove over those same pot holes going about 45, and no noise of any sort this time. :bravo::bravo:

OP:

I just installed my icon stage 1 in my 15 TE with 3" rear overland springs. After install I did some aggressive braking in the parking lot to get the springs to settle. After I got two loud clanks I didn't get any real noticeable noise from the rear.

Recently, I noticed a very slight "clank" while going over bumps and some pot holes or sudden changes in terrain. Clearance isn't really an issue and everything clears perfectly. I too read that icon recommends the trac bar but why? Doesn't seem like its needed. Nothing seems like its overextended or stressed.

I just wanted to let you know that I experience something similar but it doesn't seem very intense to the point that damage is occurring. I have to really listen to hear it and it happens when the rear end hits a speed bump at 25-30+ mph or over a pot hole or something.

Off topic, but I thought I'd bring up that you are doing something wrong with your "mentioning". You are notifying a user named Jeremy who hasn't been active since 2010 because the "566" isn't included.

Hmmm.... I tried that just by typing @-name, and by typing the name, highlighting, and clicking the "mention" icon, and both worked. I don't know how you aren't getting the 556 included.

I have the icon setup on my '15 with KDSS and do not have the rear bar and have no issues with normal daily driving. I have not had a chance to take it off raod to get the full flex but with normal driving and dirt roads 0 issues. The clunk you heard may have been suspension parts settling in, I know when I hit my first big bumps I heard a few clunks and dings but nothing since.

While I can't argue this point, I disagree that it MUST be this way.

If components are properly designed for a street vehicle, or combination street/offroad, this does not have to be so. I've lived with squeaky vehicles in the past, and i find the constant annoyance less than desirable.
I've heard uniballs are known for this, and that is why I won't run a high quality UCA that uses them.
Now, if TC or ICON would produce a UCA with a high quality replaceable ball joint, I'd be all over it!

Lol...... Jeremy556 I apologize for butchering your mention sir.
