ICON Suspension DIY installation

Just got my spring question answered in a conversation with [MENTION=72396]Lt.[/MENTION]

You are right Gary! What I MEANT to say was the complete KDSS assembly did not have to be removed such as the accumulators, lines and sway bar actuators and will still be part of the suspension after the lift, unlike XREAS.

If I had to do it again,I probably would just leave the XREAS lines and reservoirs in place and just remove the shocks at the check valves as the check valves hold the fluid in the lines.
That way it would be an easy re-install if I had CO/shock problems or when I need to have them rebuilt. I still have my X-reas system but it would be a royal pain to re-install them as the lines criss cross and snake all across the bottom. Weight savings is not that much with them off and they are up out of the way.

Yes sir. I did take some extra pictures for future reference, but those pictures are always reminding me the hard times, I can't look into them now!

I managed to get those XREAS lines out of 2 installs without messing with the body mounts. It was tight but they came out with a little persuasion .

Yes. You definitely can leave XREAS lines and reservoir in there. I thought I may add some rock sliders later and I don't want to deal with those lines anymore, so what the hell....
 
You mean the lumber under the jack stand? No worries, I specifically made those lumber base and they look ugly, but pretty sturdy.

I'm sure you believe that they are. I wouldn't be crawling under a 2+ ton truck up on 16", 2 ton, jack stands supported by some scrap 2x4, and chip board that's held together with what look like drywall screws. But hey, that's just me.

It is a lot of work to do a DIY. Takes a lot of patience and a lot of extra time to do this. Especially when you are tired with your hands dirty.

I'm sure a lot of people will benefit from this thread when doing any kind of suspension install. Does not have to be ICON.

I agree with you that safety first. I have to admit the picture looks a bit confusing. Actually the 2x4s are glued, nailed and screwed together with multiple 3 1/2" construction screws. The chip board is not used for holding 2x4s, it is just to keep the jack stand in place without dropping off when the truck plunges onto them. Ya, they look ugly, but I had to make sure they are sturdy.

Did you install the coilovers at the out of box height? How many threads do you need to leave exposed in order to give it a 3" lift?

Yes, just install at the out of box setting then adjust if needed. It is different for every vehicle so telling you a thread amount for one vehicle would not necessarily be the same for your rig.

Keep in mind if you raise your vehicle, set it down then measure, your true height will be very different. You need to drive it down the road and back to settle it, then measure.
