Idea to get rid of the smell from the back window

Has anybody tried cutting the tailpipe in front of the little resonator and turning the exhaust out the right side instead of the rear. This looks like a no brainer. I am just not sure how removing the resonator would affect the sound. Anybody?

We've done this on quite a few runners over here, I even have on my TD runner where the exhaust system comes out in the right. I prolly can take some pics for you and post.

But I do know that you'll have difficulties to put the catalytic converter in place and also have trouble with the muffler... (isn't a muffler the english name for a exhaust silencer?)

P.S. You have to bear in mind that the smell with come into the car through the right window instead...

nevermind - I just did a search for 'resonator' and have found that many have already done this. My idea may not have been original but at least it seems to work.
