Ideas for a shorter antenna?

This is true. Unscrew the OEM anetenna. Locate same size screw adaptor from the autozone antenna, screw the adaptor into the Mangowalk antenna and attach new antenna to your ride. Voila!

if that mango walk antenna is stiff, better hope no one hits it hard enough. I am sure it would bend the base and fender its sitting on. One of reasons why i will removing the whole dang thing and filling in hole with something, fiberglassing the other side.
I am thinking about relocating it to roof on back where satellite radio antenna is. we'll see. always thinking...

The thread into the truck is 5mm & the antenna is 6mm. I got a 6mm bolt and ground part down to use a 5mm die to cut neew threads in. It fit in great w/ the Mangowalk antenna. My only concern would be rusting, but reception seems uneffected. Looks way better and no twang on the garage door. I did this a while ago & it looks like the Autozone version would be simpler to getting a longer stud.

Alright guys after searching around this site for an antenna for the wife's 4runner I've got a much simpler way. Attached are three pics of an antenna from Craven Speed that will screw right in without any modification and it only cost $21. I will include a link also. I have a Tundra and I had one of these on it already so I tried it on the 4R and it works and looks great. I know this is an older thread so hopefully people will check in and see it, but we all hate when people start repeat threads!!

Have you noticed a change in reception? I'm worried because I live in Pittsburgh with lots of hills that this will impact reception. I'd rather have the long antenna and get reception than to just by something that looks more modern and lose reception.

I'm sure it has some affect on reception but you would probably just have to try it and see. My wife and I don't listen to FM radio so I don't really know.

Don't know if the Scion tC antenna would work, but it could be another option.
I just received my Mangowalk 5" antenna. I was thinking that I could use a brass bolt the same diameter as what screws into the threads on the truck. As it is slightly smaller than the diameter of the threads on the Mangowalk antenna, I could use some sort of metal filler/puttly/epoxy/locktite etc. to secure the bolt into the antenna. I am not a radio expert by any means, but am not cetrain if the bond has to be conductive or not to carry the RF signal thru the antenna core to the bolt or not. I am sure someone could answer that.
In any event, does anyone have any ideas if a "liquid metal" filler would work?

Oreily Auto parts has 2 universals that fit ... including the threading.
(1) PN# CKRM01B $7.99 - steel
(2) PN# CKRM1R $8.99 - rubber
Bothing threading fits. I tried (1) but there was a minor gap after threading it into the truck. Then tried (2), no gap
