Idler Pulley and Belt Tensioner Replacement Bearing Sizes

quick question for yous guys

Hi Guys. I'm a Tacoma driver(06 v6 pre runner), but I found this thread researching the pully bearings. Had to do mine this weekend.....got 220,000 miles out of mine, and the water pump even still seamed OK.....but i'm on my 3rd 6-speed tranny, lol. Go figure, damn trucks. Anyway, just wondering if you guys would buy billet aluminum idler pulleys? Something with less overlap on the bearing (less force to press in/out and a snap ring), and a properly sized off the shelf bearing that wont require a sleeve. I've been designing machined parts for 12 years and have easy access to everything I need (high quality cnc turning centers...with a good operator, anodizers, and bearing companies), so I think I can get them out the door for about the same price as pulleys at the parts stores (and still put a tiny bit in my pocket). Do you think there would be any interest?

Also, funny thing I noticed while looking for replacement parts....if you shop around, you can actually get the dealer part for the same or less(even after shipping) than the aftermaket pulleys from most the part stores....How often does that happen!

Awesome thread, hard to find one like it. See if I can revive it here...

There seems to be a few typos here and there between posts and other forums. Just want to get clarification on anyone who might know.

Tensioner and Idler 2s: 6203 or 6302?
Idler 1: 5203 or 5302?
Bushings for idlers: just for the 6xxx, 5xxx, or both?

Gotta make the time to go to a buddy's garage to do work, so just trying to get things ahead of time instead of pulling, taking with, or having to do it twice.

what tools are needed to remove and replace all these bearings? this sound is driving me crazy. i'm down with saving money but i'm not sure i have all the right tools to be popping out bearings and putting in new ones. wondering if i should just call my buddy who hooks up the buddy prices at the toyota dealership...

i plan on heading to the bearing shop this weekend and attempting this fix myself. do i need a press like this to get the bearings out of and in to the pulleys? is there an easier DIY way of doing this or should i rethink my plans? i have a small vice if that helps.

Is it ok to annualize resurrection of this thread?
The last episode in the series was May 2017. This is now 2018 has anything changed? My truck is a 2007 4.0L. I had thought I would replace all of them now I'm at 165,000 miles, but if I go to the bearing route itt’s going to be time consuming since I do not have the press etc. Wouldn’t Timken be the superior part brand for bearings? And the TSB mentioned previously; was it for earlier models and made standard at some model/year?

can someone suggest a source for the real OEM parts so I can consult the fiche and make sure of the part numbers and a price to hit against?

This is the image from the Toyota dealer. IP1, IP2, IP3, and 'AT' Tensioner. The parts guy couldn't find one of the IP3 probably because IP1+ IP2 have same/one base part number beginning 16604.... IP3 base part 16603, AT 16620. The retail price is $166 for the tensioner, around $78 for 1660331040, $66 for 166040P011

Which Bearing brand is the top quality? Which pulley Brand is the top? Rock sells 6 different brands - choose your pick AC Delco, Dorman, Gates, Continental, Hayden, Four Seasons....

I think this thread has died. It comes up on Google a lot, but nothing going on in it. My post wasn't answered, and I think you are #3. Great questions. I found that my 4R had a couple of the adaptations done and others a little different. Things weren't quite where I expected and thus made a few trips back and forth over time. Good luck though!

I think this thread has died. You are the 3rd post since mine last year and no responses. Great questions! Wish I had any clue as to the answer.

I found my bearings to be a bit different than any of the posts indicated. Some had been modified, some had not. So, took a few different go's over time to get it right.
