If Engineers Designed the 5th Gen 4Runner

I think most engineers are pretty good at figuring out problems and coming up with solutions. I also think we are pretty good at improving existing designs to increase performance and functionality. However, there are some things engineers should not attempt under any circumstances! While most of us like to think that bracket, bearing, circuit, code, support, beam, shaft or anything else we design is beautiful and sleek, in reality it looks like crap to everyone else.
Reading this article Mobius Motors back-to-basics SUV almost ready for Africa - Autoblog makes me think a group of engineers decided "We don't need some high priced, tight pants wearin', spiked hair with piercings everywhere, graduate of some artsy fartsy liberal arts college designing our trucks! We can make it beautiful to engineers! Forget form! Function rules!
Yes, this is what I think our 4Runners would look like if only engineers designed it. Why do I think only engineers designed it? The dead give away is only one windshield wiper for the driver and none for the passenger. Yep, I would have done that myself.

What amazes me is that thing is so bare-bones it doesn't even have windows, and they still think it's worth $10,000. And that's without any amenities at all, and without any first world safety measures like, say, shoulder belts and basic crash testing and such... it's no wonder we can't get an inexpensive light utility truck in the US, if that thing is going to cost $10,000.

Ha, why put windows in when its 80 degrees all the time? Look, it seats EIGHT, can go anywhere, has a diesel, don't have to ever worry about washing and waxing (no paint) has 9" of GC with those crap tires, probably gets 35 mpg at least and what would you crash into? A cow or elephant or something? The reason it costs $10K is they are only building 50 and that means they are hand built. Even with our 4Runner paltry sales average of 50K/yr that equates into 200 a DAY or 25/hr in an 8 hour shift. Economies of scale my friend.
I am surprised they used two headlights. One must be a spare... and speaking of spares, why not make all wheels look like spare tire wheels? Put the spare on and it matches! I love the one wiper though.

I have a civil engineering degree.

One of my professors told me that being an engineer is developing the ability to solve problems and learning to think differently than the "masses".

To wit; ...anybody can build a dam. Just keep pushing enough rubble into a canyon and eventually it will stop the flow of water behind it. But an engineer will build it using the least amount of material, in the shortest time, that will last the longest.

You can tell it's not for Americans. It holds 8 people who have to weigh less than 1400 lbs total.

I often have to work with "imagineers", they imagine in thier office, bring down to production we show it how it's going to work, and they come back with a revision. A perfect relationship.:blabla:
