Been writing for Windows Phone 7 (and for Windows O/S on computers). I could probably port to other platforms, but my day job keeps me pretty busy; this is just a hobby. For what it's worth, I've been messing around with microcontrollers (Arduino), which can control motors, servos, etc., so have been thinking what I can add to my 4Runner or Truck (like door-actuated steps).

- the owners manual
- hot links to accessories (suppliers could pay to offer through the app)
- member tips
- trailing maps, nav aids
- T4R club meet alerts
- service bulletin alerts

How about an app that plugs into the OBD and does the equivalent of that GM Onstar gizmo which allows the call centre to diagnose your problem and send out a tow truck to your GPS position? Oops - forgot this is a 4Runner - not much use for that here .

got a recommendation to try out torque. Its an app that works with a bluetooth OBDII adapter. I have the app all set up and my adapter will get here tomorrow. It should work great in my car dock

there is a very cool app called Road Trip that allows you to track all sorts of expenses for your T4R....gas, expenses, and services.

If it gets stolen... you can track it down.
If you are out hiking... you can find your way back.

I kind of like that OnStar is making a stand alone mirror that you can install into ANY vehicle for their service. I know a lot of people don't care for any of 'those types of services', but for those of us who do it might not be a bad idea. (especially since we were 'mislead' about the SOS being available on the 10' 4R's)

I thought all those current locator apps were only able to find your car in a parking lot based upon the last spot your car was.

How is it able to know where your 4Runner has been driven off too if it were stolen? Do you need to leave some kind of tracking device in the car?

There is no miracles, you have to have some hardware for locating your truck - sort of GPS device with transmitter. I guess that transmiter is most likely connected to cell phone network so tracking will work only where cell phone has signal. Car locator apps just save GPS coordinates of the place you left you car. Won't help you if truck is stolen.

How were we mislead? My 2010 T4R has SOS.
