Illegal Immigration Protests

This is basic economics. Cheaper labor produces downward pressure on price.

All things being equal, yes. However, there are other variables which enter the equation......and it gets complicated.

I'm not saying I agree with the methods of protest, just that I think it is easy to pretend we aren't benefiting immensely from illegal immigration. If not, the market would not support it. Make sense?

Well, it must be a matter of who benefits from the illegal immigration. Certain business interests obviously benefit from being able to avoid costs that are legally required to be paid by the rest of us. If you can hire someone at a reduced cost, pay them under the table, not have to withold federal taxes, FICA contributions, state & local taxes, health care, workman's comp, etc., etc. -- then there is an obvious savings!

Unfortunately, it does not always come out to make anything "cheaper" in the long run. Factor in all of the tax dollars which 'subsidize' these folks though social programs, law enforcement, health care, prisons, schools, etc., etc., etc. - and the picture looks different when you dig deeper. This doesn't even count the "giant sucking sound" of all that money sent outside the country to their relatives back home.

I live in Virginia, and our economy is really suffering from the massive influx of illegals to our region. It is a lot more complicated than people 'just looking for work' or finding their way here to improve their lives. (Why don't they fix things in their own frickin' country before messing things up here?)

It is not "the market" at all when the playing field is tilted so heavily against those of us who obey the law and play by the rules. Unfortunately, by the time the rest of the decent people in our country decide to 'wake up and smell the coffee', there probably won't be much of a country left.


Los Estados Unidos is not likely to exist as we know it unless present immigration and birth rate trends are changed. In another fifty or sixty years, the fecal matter is going to hit the windmaking device and our grandkids will be wanting to put a boot up our azzes for not doing something while we had the chance.

We are indeed a nation of immigrants and having newcomers to our country is indeed a good thing - both culturally & economically. HOWEVER, we obviously need to have limits on who comes here and how many we take in. As history has shown us, any nation which cannot (or will not, in our case) control its own borders will eventually lose its sovereignty.

Yes, this is the scariest thing!

I have come to the conclusion that the strategy we need to follow is simple:

1. Close the borders, then
2. Impose penalties for employers of ILLEGALS, then
3. Deal with those here ILLEGALLY

But while the strategy is simple, the actual tactical implementation is complex. Number 1 & 2 would be easier, so that's fine - do them 1st. Congress is gearing up to wrestle with this big, fully comprehensive legislation. This could take a long, long time to hammer out. :bash: Why not do #1 & 2, then take the time to figure out 3?

Border Control


Getting rid of 11 million or more illegal residents is easier said than done. Short of declaring martial law and tossing out the Fourth Amendment for everybody in the USA, we are not going to round up and deport everyone here illegally. It just ain't gonna happen! If our national government is not able (or not willing) to properly monitor some 1500 linear miles of our southern border, just how are they supposed to catch illegals who are dispersed throughout millions of square miles in our nation's interior?

If we have the cojones to do it, punishing those who harbor, facilitate the movement of, or employ illegal aliens (and eliminating their reasons for coming here & staying here) is the only choice. If there is no work and no roster of social services for them, they will not have any reason to stay here -- and their millions of family members in other countries will have less incentive to come here in the first place.

There are way too many people in the USA who fail to even admit that we have a problem in the first place. Out of the folks who do, fewer than half of them even have a clue about how to fix the problem. Out of the 20 - 30 percent of us who "get it" and have at least a good idea about how to fix the problem, how many of us actually believe that any political party will have the guts to do what is needed to save our nation?

One thing we need to do post haste is to make it illegal for "anchor babies" to be US citizens upon birth here. Children of illegal immigrants should also be illegal. Just because a pregnant woman squeezes out a puppy on our side of the line, it should not ensure a life on the gravy train for her entire family!

We also need to be wary of who will eventually be able to vote. Our politicians are scared of the 'invaders' voting against them if they take a hard line against illegal immigration. As the illegals come here in larger and larger numbers, have larger and larger families and become a larger and larger voting bloc, it will eventually endanger the republic.

While immigrants used to seek to assimilate and sought to become Americans, it just doesn't seem to be the case these days. Not only do they not want to learn our language, they don't want to fly our flag, serve our country or obey our laws. Living here and enjoying the freedoms we supposedly have should come at a price. Otherwise, it becomes worthless, unappreciated and eventually nobody will have any loyalty to our great nation - and, of course, will not care a whit about defending it.

While immigrants used to seek to assimilate and sought to become Americans, it just doesn't seem to be the case these days. Yup! These are the ones that we need to give the boot to, and permenantly! Figures show that at least 10% of those coming in are pretty hard core criminal types - who needs that!?

Then a system needs to be developed, after weeding out the bad element, to make some sort of guest program, with a possible path to legit citizenship. But I do think there should be steep penalties for those that got here illegally. Tearing established families apart is tough, but there needs to be some sort of consequence. Otherwise, where is the respect for our laws? Otherwise, it just keeps building on this gimme-gimme entitlement mentality.

I'm really concerned about the assimulation aspect. Maybe we can have a test: "1. I am willing to become assimulated as an American?" "2. I am not willing, and want to speak only Spanish, fly the Mexican flag, and be culturally isolated." If they answer #2, we deport them. Ain't that simple!? LOLOLOL

But the inflow of ILLEGALS has to be stopped 1st!
