Well then your daddy is one generous hombre. Only thing my daddy gave me when I was 16 is directions to where I can go get a job.

I agree on not getting the sport bumper. I've learned from experience that keeping the look very simple is more attractive. I got really excited when I first got my rig and spent like $800 on bumper crap, year later I sold everything and have nothing on it.

It doesn't really surprise me to see a 16 y/o get a brand new car. When I was 16 (19 now), I had friends that were getting 60k+ cars that their parents gave them, brand new.. They would also choose what car they wanted to drive on what day; they would choose if they wanted to drive the X5 or the Range Rover..

Anyways, Congrats again the one new 4runner and again, Welcome! :)

Yeah.. There's plenty of Lexus cars in our school parking lot. Infinitis.. There's a Denali.. an Escalade last year... About 5 4Runners..

You live in the same type of area as I do. I don't mean to sound snobby or anything, but where I live ,kids are getting brand new X5's, Ranger Rovers, and SC430's. My car was nothing compared to some of the cars these kids were getting. I never cared though. I am very happy with my Toyota!! Oh yeah, I know a kid who got a brand new FX35 with TV's and all when he turned 16.

Wow that's incredible, I wonder if that's the difference a generation gets or just a different economic demographic? Hopefully most of those kids realize how fortunate they are and don't get a totally skewed since of value. I make a very good wage, have a master's degree in engineering, and have been out of school for years... and just now bought my first new vehicle. I love it... I wonder if they appreciate their expensive possessions as much as I do? (I know you do Mark...:) )

yeah, I mean, my generation has been kindof lucky, if you will.. But it seems that the current 16 y/o generation get more than my generation has..

I agree Mark86, I never really cared either.. just made friends drive, haha :p but really, I was very happy to have the accord my parents gave me as my first car, and now the 4Runner.. I understand that my parents make a lot of sacrifices for me, mostly for my education.. And one day, when I can, I will repay them for what they do for me..

To be honest with you, some of the kids don't appreciate their possessions. They just go driving around like idiots and crashing their cars. I can't tell you how many kids were on the phone or playing cat and mouse while pulling out of my school's parking lot. I know kids who have a 2004 BMW 330 ci and a 2004 Range Rover. Lets just say I wouldn't even think twice of driving my 4Runner like that! I have too much respect for it and I know how lucky I am to have it.

I've totally seen that as well. It's just not fair to the car.. I wonder if they're parents know that's how they drive. Some do, especially when their kid totals their new bmw that still needs its plates.. sad part is when those parents buy them another more expensive car.. i hated the high school parking lot, just too many stupid kids that just got their license and think they are cool for peeling out their car as they drive out of their parking space..

people are like that though.. :(
 
That stuff blows my mind.

From the sounds of it you guys won't have anything to worry about.... you'll be THEIR supervisors when y'all hit the real world. Especially if they're stupid enough to trash brand new luxury cars for the hell of it... My parents sacrificed for me as well, like you said, mostly in education. It's what you do with those sacrifices and how you carry yourself with their generous gifts that counts.

It all goes back to appreciating what you are given. I thought I was the luckiest kid in the world when I turned 16 in November of 1992 and my parents gave me the keys to our family's '86 Mazda 626LX. Had a sunroof and everything - it was great. I dented and dinged it up, wore out the engine and the brakes driving badly and like a maniac til I finally figured out what I was doing, grew up a bit, and bought a brand-new Saturn SC2 a couple years later on money I had saved and earned on my own. Some kids are luckier than others, but anyone who gets a good, functioning car from parents who truely care about them is luckier than most kids in the world.

It sounds like you've got your head screwed on straight and appreciate what your parents are doing for you - congratulations and enjoy the new ride!

my first car

You guys were talking about your old rigs and... yeah, I have you beat I think. For about a week I drove a '65 FJ-45 and then I got a better offer, so I sold that. Then I got a 46 Jeep CJ-2A... can anyone beat that? It was my car senior year... and then I upgraded a year later to a 94 runner because I moved away and I needed a good snow 4x4 for college.
I can't imagine getting a car from the current century. *dreams*
 
my first car was a 1969 chevelle malibu 350, i slaved and i saved for over a year and then when i finally found one i liked i picked it up, my parents were kind enough to spot me $3000 on a no interest loan from them to go along my 2 g's to buy the baby, so now 6 years later i still have it- but i went through a very poor time period in order to keep it and get a more economical car. but now i feel very proud to have my name on the title along with my new runner because i paid every penny for my babies and it taught me alot of responsibility in the meantime.

its hard to not get jealous when i see kids get handed the keys to luxury cars but i dont fret because i EARNED my stuff and they didnt!!!

my parents would not let me work during high school either. i suppose i could have worked summers, but the way my summers were with moving and classes by the time i was able to drive, i couldn't really work.. now that i'm in college, i'm really only allowed to work summers too.. so chances are my first job would be an internship..

Hey all, I can totally relate to what Mark 86 was saying! I was born and brought up here in North Jersey and boy! are these kids indulged!( I was too , but I didn't get a new car) i think a lot of it has to do with a bit of guilt the parents feel`about working so much, most of us had two professional working parents who were often not around much. A lot of these kids have nannies and such.... I may be able to afford a new car for my daughter ( she's 6 now), but she will have to earn good grades and get a job like lifeguarding to pay for gas....and it will be used. I want her to appreciate what she has and earn it... just my two cents..
 
Hey.. I'm from AL too. My sister lives in T-town.. she just bought her a silver 4Runner yesterday.

I guess I should takes pics. LoL. It's all stock tho.. boring.. but I'll do something to it one day.
