I'm about to order sliders..

Yea, I'd probably bolt them on. But I can weld them later if I decide.

I know that they'll get used and abused. So I figured I'd have to respray down the road.. I'm leaning towards textured paint if I do it myself.. it seems only Demello offers that.
 
Can't say enough about the Budbuilt with Full Tread. With the tread they are GREAT step and I use them all the time to access the Gobi Rack. Small kids can clamber up and down. And without these as steps I couldn't get mountain bikes on top of my lifted rig. I can heft a bike over my head and step up onto the slider to mount on the bike rails.

Frankly I can't think of a better design (for me) and they look fantastic. Yeah the price is high but you get what you pay for.

Edit: I also wanted to mention that Budbuilt is one of the best companies I have dealt with in my aftermarket upgrades. Turnaround was in a matter of weeks on the sliders and communication was always fantastic.

It's really easy following Antman's detailed instructions. Note that he has 1.75" below the chrome strip. For the Budbuilts I had to go back a 2nd time to trim down to .5" to clear the sliders. Also trimmed a little more to clear the front and rear tubing.

I used a dremel and a good razor knife for the trimming. You could do the whole job with just a razor knife and actually get a better clean line, just more muscle involved. (To me the stock SR5/LE rocker trim is ridiculous anyways, if you off road much you loose clearance and I just think they look bad.)

Piece of cake... just do it! :thumb:

I've installed my OPOR sliders I bought from Metal Tech last week. Here's what it looks like. I got them in bare steel and used Rustoleum truck bed spray on them.

Thanks for those pics! Did you get your BB bump out sliders powder coated or did you paint them yourself?

Dude, that truck is amazing! If I had an unlimited budget (or specifically no wife) that is exactly what I would do to my 4runner. Top notch!

But on a more serious note, make sure you like how much the BB bump outs stick out, fab it up with a cardboard or something if anything. Some people seem to feel they stick out too far, IMO it's just right and a great sized step. If they end up being too far out for your taste, maybe get the Metal Tech OPOR sliders? You really can't go wrong with either brand...
 
Great thread.

Don't mean to hijack but a quick question.

I remember seeing pictures of trucks with sliders in accidents, and how of a better condition the truck probably ended up vs without the sliders (i believe these pictures were of sliders that were welded on) Since sliders are theoretically an extension of the frame, they would absorb the impact before the body panels/passengers of the vehicle, therefore serving as a sort of protection.. (?) Would bolt on sliders also be as tough in an accident vs welding? The atcual material would definitely stand up to the force the same, but i would assume the mounting would be substantially less vs welding and the bolts would just shear off? Or is the mounting hardware strong enough to withstand the force of an accident?

well, I just called and ordered my OPOR sliders from MT with front and rear dimple die which can be used as step plates.. I ordered them as bare steel since i'll prep the metal and spray a textured paint on them.
