I have had five 4Runners since 1988 and the solid sound of closing the doors has never been a strong point (he said sarcastically) 
. Not terrible, but not as solid as I would like.
My current one is a 2010 LE and, like all of my previous 4Runners, the sound of closing the doors can be a little "clanky". Actually I think that at least one component of the offending sound originates in the door handles themselves. You can pull one out just a little bit, then release it and hear at least a part of the "clank" or tinniness as it returns to it's rest position.
My brother just bought a 2014 TE and he brought it over to show me and I was blown away by the improvement in the sound of the doors. I don't know if this is a sudden improvement or if it was done in one of the other years since 2010.
Anyway, does anyone know what changes were made in the doors? Matting? Different handles? Anything that can be changed or added to an older model? TIA for any suggestions.
