Injector purchase

New member
I need new injectors - I have done the preliminary testing and all data points to injector(s) failing. I need an least 2, but with 400k on the odometer, I would say that more are soon to follow.

My question - Are eBay injectors worth while?

Toyota wants $177.00 per injector and Napa wants $110.00 per injector (part only). However I can purchase all 6 on eBay for $200ish dollars. Is there that big of a difference in quality? Is there an eBay seller y’all would recommend?

Thoughts?

I purchased a low mileage OEM full set with rail/fuel pressure regulator off of eBay for $120. I so far seem to be lucky with it, but be wary... For how cheap it is, I'd say it's worth the risk.
 
Don't go the Ebay route. They aren't OEM. I'd say dealer if you can afford it though I have always had good luck and performance with all my NAPA bought parts. The other big three, not so much.

You can go eBay but don't buy new. Buy used oem injectors that have been cleaned and tested with new orings. Got mine for $60 oem on eBay.
 
Thanks for the feedback. I can’t justify the dealer new price, $1100.00 is approximately 1/4 the value of my truck. I have always been a fan of purchasing from a dealer, but only if it makes sense for my budget.

I will continue my search on eBay, if there is a seller that anyone can recommend, please send me their name.

I used to be into E30 BMW’s. New injectors were insane and I had great luck with rebuilt OEM injectors, new seals, pintels, etc. They even came with the testing specs. Got them from am eBay business/seller with great feedback. Small shop somewhere if I remember correctly.
 
As [MENTION=50342]JayRolla[/MENTION] said, if you do buy on Ebay, stick to used. There seem to be so many fake parts floating around on Ebay these days.
I bought a used set and sent them off to Witchhunter to be cleaned, tested and have new o-rings installed.

If you really want to save some $$$, just take your injectors out and send them in, its only $22 each. Downside is that you will be without your 4Runner for about a week and a half.

Another option is Five0 Motorsports, they basically sell "refreshed" (cleaned, tested, o-ringed) for about $50 each.

I just replaced my injectors due to a long cranking issue. Bought used OEM injectors with the fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator. Sent them out to Witchhunter (which I strongly recommend) and put them in a couple weeks back, no issues. The ebay seller I bought from was japanenginesusa.

Also went to Witchhunter. I sent him all six, he tested them and determined one was bad, rebuilt the other 5 ($22 each) and sold me a rebuilt one that he had in the shop ($30). Shipping is extra. Inexpensive and great quality - highly recommend it. Downside is you will be out the vehicle for a week or two.

Counterfeit injectors on EBay.....beware.....

Could anyone confirm. There are two different type of injectors on our trucks. Depending on the year. One set has two large holes. The other ones have 4 small one. And they both are different color.

If you have let’s say the 2 hole ones. Can you swap all of them out for the 4 hole injectors ?

This is correct. 96-98 had the grey ones and in 99 they switched to the brown. As long as they are all the same when you swap it should be fine

I have a 99, and after I posted last night I when ahead with the eBay purchase. I didn’t realize there were two different styles of injectors, the ones I purchased are the same color as what I have now.

What I will do now that I have the advice of everyone here, is send my oem injectors to witch hunter when I get the eBay ones installed.

Gotch ya. I would assume the same. That as long as you swap all. It should run fine. But here is what I don’t understand. When I did a JDM swap. I left the JDM injectors. When I started the truck. It ran like poop. Misfires all over the place. Ended up swapping the JDM injectors for my old USDM injectors and it ran perfectly. I don’t recall the color difference. But I’m just curious, if the JDM are different resistance than USDM. Even though let’s say they are 2 holes.

Yeah I remember reading about that. My guess is the ECU is different on those rigs and there was a electrical difference in them for that ECU.

Generally, when you swap an engine that is not an exact like-for-like, you install all the old injectors & sensors so that they are consistent with the ECU that remains in the vehicle.

Gonna do my knock sensors soon and was thinking about replacing my original injectors with a "rebuilt", cleaned and tested ebay denso oem set. My originals seem to be fine, but since I will be tearing everything apart I thought this would be a wise idea. Any thoughts on this?:)
 
I'm gonna chime in here, I've purchased ebay injectors without any issues for both our 3rd gens @ $160 for 6. They came from LA and were "Aisin" branded and part number both were molded into the bodies as were the ones they replaced. While I know there are several knock offs on ebay devoid of such molding. It's a buyer beware type of thing. I just couldn't justify the $170-190 price range the local Stealerships were asking for 1 injector. We've logged close to 70k and 40k on our 3rd gens respectively. I guess it is the Toyota box they come in :wacko: justifies the price increase.

Injectors are pretty simple machines, a body, o-rings, filters and wire resistors. I've made a cleaner/testor out of a tire valve stem, 9v battery and have the old injectors for back-up.
