I dropped my transmission pan to change a synchro and as I was wiping out the pan after scraping the gasket, I noticed that the black paint on the inside was bubbling. it had the consistent pattern of say...bed liner but smooth. So its not just a bubble here and there. does this paint provide corrosion prevention? would I be safe scrubbing what I can with steel wool and cleaning and re-installing or should I coat the inside again with something?
Addition: I have never seen the trans get hotter than normal and the fluid was pretty dirty and consistent in color (looked normal for almost 150k) so it doesn't appear that the fluid was contaminated or that the trans was abused by the PO.
