Installed 285/70/17 Cooper ATP

I had Cooper ATP 285/70/17 Load range E installed last night. I am bone stock and there's zero rubbing anywhere, but when fully compressed I'm sure it would hit. Just posting this so that other's who maybe don't off-road but want a larger more aggressive tire then stock these are available. My OME lift is being installed now so even off road I shouldn't have any issues.

I've only driven 10 miles on them so far and they are smooth, them being load range E I immeditley noticed a huge difference in the way she handles, much firmer, I only have 4500 miles on the truck right now and wish I had done this on mile one... Although these aren't the most aggressive tires I've owned they are way more aggressive then the Cooper AT/3. I had the Cooper ST on my 08 Tacoma TRD Off-Road and the ATP seems to be a cross between the AT/3 and ST. I will test the suspension and tires this weekend...

Should have gotten a tread shot but I was tired this AM and not thinking clearly... Cooper's website has zero info on these things and they are available only through Discount tire and I will include a better shot of the tread pattern so they can be compared to other tires.

I've got them on my 3rd gen. Very happy with ride and very low road noise too.

Thank you. It was a tough decision between the tires and lift or the tires and the TRD wheels... I love those wheels, can't wait to get them

Nice tread pattern. Looks like they would be nice and smooth / quiet on the freeway. Good call on load range E, that extra stiffness in the side wall makes for a more "planted" feeling.

I will guarantee it'll be the single best improvement to your truck....especially the the E's


Now you can adjust your driving habits to drive that **** like it's rented!

I only was able to drive it about 10 miles before the lift but there's heavy construction byt my house and I didn't slow down for the big bumps and dips and when I get home I cranked the wheel as far left and right while reversing and didn't hear anything or get any feedback through the steering wheel.

@ DannyLlama Thanks I'm happy the decision making is over! I had been torn between sizes and types. When these are due replacement I'll probably go with a larger tire since they weren't as big as I thought they would be.

Hey FF, do you think we could get a head-on shot, see what the width of the tires looks like in the wheel wells? Thanks a bunch :hatsoff: I'm liking the ATPs from what I've seen. Just wish there were more reviews on them out there. Any idea what the weight per tire is on those bad boys? One final question: did the shop give you any grief about mounting them on the stock (7") rims?

Tires look good man!! I had debated these for a while, and then I decided to go with the hankook mts.

One thing about going to an "E" load range, though it does give you a more planted feeling it can make bumps much more jarring.
I put load ange E on my wifes expedition and the ride suffered.
Not sure if thats as much of an issue here, especially with upgraded springs and shocks, but any comments on the ride differences?

That's good. I've read some threads on here about tire shops giving folks grief about the 285s on the stock rims, 7.5 is the recommended minimum. I look forward to seeing the head-on pics. I've been debating over wheel spacers if the tires still look too inboard of the body.

Try trading them in. If they've got some life left in them, you may get a few bucks from a place like Discount tire.

I thought about getting the ATP but the nearest Discount is an hour away. There was a local shop where I am that had AT/3 so I went with them.

One thing I'm still wondering if I should have done different is the load range. I went with the P rated 4 ply tires. I had thought about getting E but my wife didn't want a stiff ride. We have E's on our 3rd Gen and it is very stiff. We wont be using the 5th Gen as a hard core off-road truck for a few years which is part of the reason I went with P rated tires. Anybody else have the P rated and wish you didn't?
