As for your slider dilemma, that's easy. Tell her it's to help her get in and out of the 4Runner easier. At least that will be the excuse I use after I lift it and she complains that's it's too difficult to get in and out of.

I got mine for about $550 shipped from Autopartswarehouse.com. I had a 15% off coupon.
You can hear the lower sound exhaust hum at 70 mph because the RPMs hit 2000, but it doesn't sound too obnoxious. Mine usually gets drowned out by my K&N when accelerating. Butt dyno says I can tell a difference now in off-the-line and initial acceleration torque.
Crap, I wish you responded sooner because I already ordered it through borla last night. I'm just waiting for my dealer to get back to me on the TRD cai.

Hallelujah, I can finally post on this forum! I had to re-register with a different email address. None of the mods have email contacts in their profiles so I was absolutely unable to make any contact.
Anyway, I was just looking at the Borla system at Autopartswarehouse. With the current 10% off coupon (APW10) the price is $589.94 delivered and could be DIY installed at home for no additional cost.
The stock tubing is 2.5" and appears of high quality and even good mandrel bends. Additionally, the stock exhaust tubing has nice welded on heat shields at all locations near the rubber exhaust hangers. For these reasons I am interested in determining the price of getting a Borla muffler and exhaust tip. Depending on which muffler is correct, I "think" it may be $198.34 delivered for a muffler and tip, and then you would have to go to a shop to have them weld them in. Due to the length difference between stock and Borla, you'll have to hope the shop has a good quality piece of 2.5" tubing to weld in place.
The tip is easy to determine. If you want the same as the system it is the 20155 part number, 2.5" inlet, 3.5" outlet by 4-1/4" long polished section and 7" total length.
Determining the correct Borla muffler is more difficult. Ironically, In the installation instructions at the Borla website, Borla shows a picture of the stock muffler, but none of the actual Borla system. :repuke: I think it is likely one of the Turbo mufflers. Likely the 40980 part number, which is 2.5" center / center and measures 13-1/4"x4-1/4"-7-7/8".
FYI for those that have not measured, stock dimensions are 24"Lx12"wWx8"H
So, for those that have installed the Borla System can we please get a couple pictures and measurements of the installed system?
Specifically I want to determine the size of the Borla muffler and the orientation of the inlet and outlet, i.e. center / center or center / offset, etc.
Also, I would be interested in seeing if the Borla system has heat shields on the exhaust tubing like the stock system.

Actually this collision and service center is right down the street from me. I'm not sure which direction they started with but overall they are a collision/service/performance-accessory-installation shop. Nice looking mechanic shop, great customer service, and quality work. Not sure if they have other locations. The one I've been to is in Mira Mesa, a neighborhood in San Diego, CA.

Borla DIY
I attempted to do my Borla catback exhaust at home. Getting the stock system off without cutting, proved to be the most difficult task out of everything. I ended up going on base to use the hobby shop's lift. From there I was able to get the stock exhaust off much easier. I know mine is on a 4th Gen but from what I have read so far, there seems to be some similar problems.
To be more specific with my removal, the hardware was "gates of hell" tight. Also, Borla had the highest prices when I was looking around. I ended up buying from Jason Burtman @BurtmanIndustries.com, he had the best Borla price at the time.

I think center / offset may be a better muffler. part number 40659. 14"x4-1/4"x7-7/8". Happily it is cheaper than the other muffler, so the total would be $188.08.

Thanks, I purchased through Borla like a dumbass and it'll be here tomorrow.
I received the Borla this morning and installed it myself in just under 1.5 hrs with no lifts or jacks. I tried to losen the 2 bolts up by the flang but it was just impossible. After trying for 10 min and banging my thumb 2 times I just cut it out and the rest was simple. The sound is very nice and not annoying at all. There are no rattles anywhere while going over harsh roads and the droan is very, very minimal. I had my friend take the truck to see what it sounded like while i was outside and I think it sounds real deep and nice. Start up sounds real cool also. Thanks to DavidPapke's nice write up and photos it was an easy 1-man install and my pictures look just like his so no need to double post. I am trying to decide if the Borla 40659 muffler is a good choice. Its dimensions are 2.5" in let and out let, center / offset, 14" x 4-1/4" x 7-7/8" The case is 14" and the overall is 19"
The other option is the Magnaflow 6612256, 18" case, 24" overall 5"x8".
