Installed my Ipod interface today.

I finally installed my USASpec Ipod interface today. Man this site made it so easy. With step by step directions its a snap. The only thing that took me a while was figuring out where to put the damn thing. I finally decided to put it behind the stereo between the two air conditioning ducs. I also ran the wire into the little cubby above the cup holders as others have. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it but so far this is what i've notificed. The sound is awesome. CD Quality depending on the MP3 itself. Creating TOYOTA playlists is kinda anoying but using the steering wheel controls makes up for it. You can create 5 playlist and the 6th playlist is all the songs. You can change songs and playlists with the steering wheel. Never have to touch the ipod once its connected. There's a slight delay when changing songs but not to bad. Also have to get used to the numbering system. Since the radio only goes up to 99. 101 is listed as 01 and so on. So far I love it and you can't beat it since it was FREE!!!!

Do you have a Part Number for that? I was looking at an interface at crutchfield, but it said it doesn't fit 6 disc jbl unit.
 
Ok awesome, then this is probably what I'm going with. Currently I have the 1st generation PIE adapter and I wanted something that can integrate the IPOD, use the steering wheel controls and charge the IPOD. This seems to do all 3.

Do you happpen to have the Rear Seat Audio and do you know if that function still works?

RSA still works, though the IPOD cannot be heard through the RSA.

It sounds great. Way better than when I used an FM Modulator through my factory DVD. I get plenty of Base and its crystal clear. No buzzing or humming. It also depends on the quality of the MP3 you are playing and what bit rate they are at. But it sounds just like a cd.

The interface is just as if it were a cd changer. You plug it in, turn on your radio and then hit the mode button until you get to CD1. It defaults to disc 6 which is all the songs on the Ipod. You change disks by holding the steering wheel button to disc1 which is your playlist your created called TOYOTA1. You listen to that playlist then you can switch to the next playlist by changing disks again. You can save up to 5 playlist. So I have one playlist is Rock/Alternative, Pop, Rap, Country, and then 80's. Its like having my own radio stations. You can use the random button on your HU and it goes through your songs. I like that feature. As far as picking what song you want to play might be a little more difficult. Since my playlist have over a hundred songs its kinda hard to know whats coming next unless you create the playlist before, hand picking what order you want your songs to come in.

It would, but is a waste. You could use the aux input on the adapter. But not the iPod interface.

You can't use the iPod interface with the iPod Shuffle. With the Shuffle, you can't charge the battery or select songs with the radio/steering wheel controls. I think the iPod can (with the interface).

For the shuffle, you need something like this by PIE.

It converts the headunit's aux interface to RCA inputs (not an Ipod interface). Then you need to convert from RCA to 1/8" stereo jack with this . Plug the jack into the Shuffle, good to go. :D



I've been thinking about getting a Shuffle for working out, and some use in the 4Runner. Maybe the 1GB.

scion HU with xm and ipod?

Hi,
I need some advice on the USA Spec iPod adapter. I want to get a Scion head unit for my 03 4runner and I want to hook up an iPod and an Terk XM commander. Will I the adapter (USA Spec) connect/control both? Do I need the Scion with the multi disc CD changer? or will the Scion 1804 with the CD changer "port" work?

On the box it says "scion all models"
you can goto www.usaspec.com 4more specifics

I paid $104 shipped from cardomain.com had to wait a week but that seems 2b a good price, certainly cheaper than crutchfields.
 
xpdnrunner - it should work with the SCION. Check the first post of this thread and I linked the user manual of the USASpec
