Installed Rear Lights

I know, holy thread revival right? so i know this one is kind of old but timeless in its relevence. 004gunner, thanks for posting the writeup and schematic.

i just installed bumper lights per, and because of your helpfull info. thanks again. question for any willing electrical guru out there.

i wired it per 004gunner's schematic, tapping into the cigarette lighter circuit for the trigger on the relay. i have always wanted to do the 12volt constant on mod but wanted to have an over-ride switch where position a is normal factory operation but position b is always on. now that i tapped into the same 12v accessory circuit for triggering the aux lights, is there a way to have a switch where i can energize the aux lights and or 12v accessory circuit by a switch in one position, where in the other position it would otherwise act normally, being always off with ignition off?

it would be nice to have the security of not accidentally draining my battery but the ability to say charge a phone or use the aux lights without having to have the ignition on.

i can almost picture a way that involves another relay but i just dont know enough about electrical to pull it off by myself. anybody have any ideas or even better a schematic? thanks in advance for anybodys input.

I did the 12V constant on mod myself and get power all the time to the 12V accessory jacks. This does not modify or have an effect on the rear light install if your wiring matches mine. The only way my rear lights can be powered is to have the key turned to the "on" or "acc" position.

If you utilize the diagram Elton provided then that would enable the rear lights to be turned on without the key.

Adding the relay (as in my diagram) provides additional control by requiring specific conditions in order to power the rear lights. Hope this explanation helps!
 
Back from the dead

I finally got around to installing some cheap WalMart driving lights! I used a relay and on/off/on rocker switch so I can have them turned on with the key turned to accessory, on when in reverse, or just off all the time. I used the rear body mounts for my attachment point and you can see they're pretty subtle until turned on. The lights use the 55W H3 bulb so I get plenty of light now

Trying to self i can resurrect this thread. The pictures stopped working and i want to see how the lights were physically mounted to the rear body mounts.
