First of all, I'd like to introduce myself to the forums, as this is my first post here. I go only by the name Psythik all over the internet (so if you happen to see the name anywhere else on the 'net, you can be sure it's me). My truck is is a first gen 4runner (1986), which I purchased last August for $1200.
Anyhow, the reason why I've made my first post here is because I have a few questions about installing bigger speakers in the front and back. Right now I have 4" Infinity Reference 4012i speakers in the front and some older 5x7" Blaupunkt speakers in the back; all of the speakers are running to a Pioneer DEH-P7000R deck.
Now my plan is to keep the 4" Infinitys, but replace the old Blaupunkts with some 6x9" Infinities. Problem is, I've pretty much destroied the plastic side panels trying to cut speaker holes in them with nothing but a jigsaw and some sandpaper
, so those Blaupunkts are just sorta hanging out of the massive crooked holes I cut into the sides. I plan on replacing those plastic panels with something sturdier, but I have no idea where to start. What I eventually want to do is have a six-speaker setup (not including subwoofers), with the 4" Infinities in the stock area on the front, then some larger ones on in the doors (I'm going to eventually have to drill some holes there), and the larger ones in the back as well.
So my question is, what's the best way to go about this? How much hollow space is actually inside the front doors and how big of speakers could I fit there? What should I replace the trunk's plastic panels with? I have many more questions still to come, but unfortunately, I've run out of time for the moment...
