Interesting GPS mounting locations?

My searches on this topic have not yielded any relevant info that is recent, so I figured I would ask.

I'm considering getting a GPS unit soon and wondering if anyone has any interesting or clever places where they have mounted theirs? Any other thoughts on GPS preferences such as brand, screen size or wiring options would be appreciated as well.

I have my old TomTom OneXL mounted to my slide-out drink holder in my '98 (99 console)
with a few loops of bike inner tube. A bit ghetto, but solid enough and undo-able.

I think the dash is the best place for safely viewing while driving, but I hate the idea of it being so visible to all the punk-ass thieves out there.

Interesting. Do you have any pics?

I don't use those cup holders anymore as I have one of Bhicks custom cup holders — so I'm open to using it as a mount, especially if I could just remove the actual GPS unit while not in the truck. I bet I could even run the wiring back thru the cup holder into the dash for a clean install.

If it's a mapping GPS you want, I recommend the Garmin Montana, probably with the built-in 100K Topo map. Don't bother with the camera option, it's a pretty bad camera. Add Garmin or other 1:24,000 Topo maps as needed via micro SD cards.
Mount: Standard Garmin suction cup mount, centered on top of dash, mounted low as possible so as not to block view. Montana unit snaps into and out of mount.
Remove from dash (or vehicle) when in city or other crime and theft-ridden locations.

I just got a bad elf gps lightning adaptor for my iPad, it's mounted in the cab by ram mount. I will get pictures of the setup tomorrow, I decided to go this way because of those punk as thieves, it's easy to take in and out so as not to tempt them...

I cut out a section of my visor and put my gps there. Flip down when I need and when I'm parked no one knows its there.

I did this with my FZJ80. Worked great, but was exposed for thief viewing, just tried to keep it in the garage, or in a patrolled parking lot. Ram mount with sheet metal on the under side of the plastic console for bracing.

I had mine mounted here for a while. Made a bracket that slid behind the dash rubber part with some 2 sided tape. Held pretty well!
