Interior Lighting mod

I checked my LED's in the cargo area and they are slightly on. I can't see how it is an LED problem, (they can't make power by themselves!) so the control unit for lighting must be supplying some voltage to them when it should be completely off, probably a wrong value pull up resistor. If you take out the LED light (or regular light) and measure across the leads with the door close there is probably a trickle voltage present, not enough to fire up a regular bulb due to its resistance and load requirement, but the LED's require less so they glow. I would believe it's the same draw as a regular bulb but you see these glow. The actual current draw is soooooo small it could be on like that forever with the current reserve our batteries have.

7. To put it back on, I started with the left side, pushed it in a little, and then snapped in the right side. It is a little hard to tell if you reattached it all of the way after you do it, so be sure that you did, or you might lose a mirror on the highway!

Just made the switch out on all interior lights to the LEDs, simple to do and made a huge difference. There is so much more light available now!
 
this is going to be my next mod. couple questions:

1) going to swap map lights, dome, mirror puddle and cargo. since i'm using your guide, Snooperstyle, do the WHP5 map lights match the stock mini light between them? curious.

2) is there also a plug-n-play way to add LEDs to headlights or do you have to do something like the kit so_LED is selling?

ps: incredibly dumb question: i just spent 15 min (not really) looking for my door puddle lights. since i rock an SR5, i can look as long as i like and i'm not going to find them, right?

1. No, that mini one in the middle is built into the circuit board up there. I pulled the whole thing down and it is not replaceable without being a circuit board soldering iron genius...at least as far as I could tell...because I wanted to change that one to a red color, like in some of the Audis and BMWs, and I discovered that I was unable to do that with that particular mini LED.

2. Not sure on that, do you mean the strips that are under the headlights? If you mean, that, check ANTMAN's truck...I think he might have done that...http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/102460-led-headlight-pics.html#post913979

Never did LED strips under the lights. I have them behind the interior door handles, in the cupholders, and in some interior cubbyholes. Oh yeah, and one in the OH console illuminating the sunroof switches.

Just cruising around Amazon today and thought these might be good to try if someone wants to give it a stab. Also note the items other customers have purchased, and there might be some suitable map light, puddles, etc... Just a thought. 4 for ~$7 seems like a pretty worthwhile investment to test the quality. They look a lot like the ones I bought recently, but these come in a lot cheaper.

snooper: installed LEDs today. look dynamite, couldn't be easier. however, that Festoon didn't quite sit right in the dome housing. did you notice this?

You're really going to like it. I installed the setup that So_LED markets and its awesome. Night and day difference, no pun intended. Enjoy!
 
so i just started installing the V-LED's into my t4r.. map lights look great, dome light looks great.. the freakin bulbs dont fit the housing in the door puddle lights tho!! i broke one of the housings trying to modify it too.. my question is though as of now, how do i pull off the 2 tail gate light covers? thanks guys

i went to replace my door puddle lights today and the bulbs i got from V-LED were too long for the inside clear cover to go back on.. i'm searching for a new bulb that has worked for someone and i'll contact v-led tomorrow to see if anything else is shorter in length to allow that clear plastic cover to be put back on.

Insert a flat tip screw driver into the driver side of each light cover and press forward. There is a metal bar/clip you have to compress. Once you compress this piece of metal and lift up on the light cover, it should pop right out.

Thanks, i eventually got it.. pesky lil pieces.. just couldnt get the doors done due to the bulbs being too long.. but everything including the mirror puddle lights look great! Ill take pics soon

I don't have a pic, but I would say that the LP looks just right. Although it did not look right until I switched the housings, as described in my mods. Also, your LP might look different since it is probably not the same design. I would also check with your state laws about whether or not you can put a colored light in there. I recommend the amble LEDs. I think that it is a very nice SUBTLE improvement. I can try to get you a pic tonight maybe.
